Wind Generator
Wind Generator
New Air Breeze Wind Generator with Porlamar, Margarita in the background
I added an Air Breeze wind generator to "Bluewater Cat" while I was on the hard in Trinidad. The new wind generator can generate up to 200 Watts. The existing 2 solar panels can generate up to 120 Watts each. I also generate power with the main engines. We sailed from Isla Margarita to the Venezuelan offshore islands of Blanquilla and Tortuga. Dolphins

well, how inevitable was this. i had a good week, a really good week, in caracas. then i headed to maracay, and ever since i got there, its been a different ball game completely. its not anything to do with the place itself, or even the people im around. it has just quite literally hit the fan, and the cheery juanito billetes that milled around the venezuelan capital with a 74 year old has been replaced by a more dramatic version of liverpool john. yes, thats right, either being happy or being sad. only this time its dramatically different. im either [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! We live! We arrived and survived. So, we flew into Simon Bolivar airport today and we were lost from the start. But it did not happen that fast. From LAX, we got on a plane we thought was en route to San Jose, Costa Rica. Little did we know that we would be seeing a whole different part of Central America - Guatemala. It was short-lived, but an interesting stop. The boarding pass said nothing of this short layover. I met a man named Antony who was on his first plane flight ever. He was visiting a friend in [View Full Entry]

Well, I made it back from Choroni! I literally rolled right into class and off the night bus yesterday morning having slept four hours and not eaten in oh maybe 18 hours. Where to even begin with the weekend story… Last Thursday night about 11 other students and I hopped on board a bus around 8pm for the long 12 hour drive to Maracay. Luckily the buses were actually nice, kind of like a coach bus with reclining seats, although they literally keep it 40F with the AC blasting. It was a little hilarious to see all the Venezuelans bundled in [View Full Entry]

Helgin

South America » Venezuela » Central » Maracay
[View Full Entry]

So we spent a few days relaxing on the beach in puerto colombia, just soaking up the sun and taking it easy basically. By Sunday we decided it was time for a change of scenery (Eddie was afraid of the German lady who ran our hostel) so we took a few crazy buses to Tucacas, another coastal town further west again in Venezuela. In Tucacas we checked in with Carlos, a nice Venezuelan man who runs a pretty cheap hostel. We had three days in Tucacas, two of which were spent diving. We did three dives each and loved it. Playa la Grande, Puerto Colombia
The crazy fishing port
All ready to dive

Well, for those that have been following this blog the whole way, you may have noticed a downturn in the general levels of enthusiasm for this trip. I believe this is a common condition known as 3-month fever. I guess it started to creep up on me as I left Peru. Leaving Lukas was supposed to be the start of a big solo adventure again. Alas I never quite got that feeling. There was a brief recovery during days at Cotopaxi and in and around Quito, and also at the Angel Falls. But since then I've basically been waiting for the [View Full Entry]

The beach at Puerto Columbia - as good as any!

After a few days of mucking around in the wilderness, it was time for a spot of sun, surf and sand. So we headed to the small fishing village of Puerto Colombia, in Harry Potter National Park. (It's not really called that. It's actually called Henri Pittier National Park, after the founder of the Venezuelan National Park scheme). One half of the park is mountains and cloudforest, and the other half is miles of unspoilt beaches and coastline. 7% of the world's species of birds are found here! On the way to the park, we were boarded by the National Guard, [View Full Entry]
