Trinidad, a small village near to the Encarnacion city and few kilometers from the Argentinian border. It is know because of the Jesuit settlements which has been added to the list of world cultural heritage of the UNESCO. In total, there were seven Jesuit settlements in Paraguay, but the Trinidad is the most complete of them. The nearby Jesus (12km) is also very well preserved.... read more

The other part of the falls. In Argentina, the park is much more bigger the in Brasil, so you can walk a lot and (if you are making a big effort) you can be sometimes even alone in some places, enjoying the falls and making photos without the presence of thousands of turists (this is totally impossible on the Brasilian side). The park offers a closer look on the falls, you can go very close to the San Martin waterfall and to the Garganta del Diablo which is breathtaking with the amount of water and all the noise !... read more

The Brasilian part of the famous Iguazu falls in Parque Nacional do Iguacu. I was there on Sunday and there were plenty of people, maybe also because on Tuesday there was national holiday in Brasil and all the people left the cities. Nevertheless the view of the falls is spectacular, even if you don't come so close to the falls, but you get a good overview of the size of the falls. It is 275 falls (depending on the year period and the amount of water) from 40 to 80 meters height....... read more

The second bigest dam of the world (after the Chinese Three Gorges), but producing the most electric energy in the world more than 90 TWh) per year. There are free guided tours around the dam explaining the history and the facts. But, of course, the iformation you get is a propaganda of the Paraguayan government hiding how much was destroyed building this enormous dam which started in 1973 and the first generator started to work in 1984, adding the others later. To create the dam, many indigenous villages dessapeared as well as the original rain forest and falls more amazing than Iguazu...... read more

Border city between Paraguay, Brasil (Foz do Iguazu) and Argentina (Puerto Iguazu) few kilemeters South . The city is a huge market, full of street sellers. The most present article are plastic pools, massivly bought by the Brasilians (don't ask me why). It is a necessity to pass through this city going to the Iguazu falls or to see the Itaipu dam, but in the city itself, there is nothing interesting to see ...... read more

The capital of Paraguay is full of contrasts, on one side you see fat vilas of rich people living in the center and around, with nice gardens, expensive cars, etc. and on the other side there are homeless people living next to the president palace at Rio Parana's shore every year beeing flooded. Also some parks and squares (ie. Plaza Urugaya) are occupied by homeless living just below a platic cover, cooking below the trees and washing their clothes in the streets slops. There are few nice colonial buildings in the center as well as the amazing presidents palace and the cathedral. El Panteon at the Plaza de Heroes also is a impressive construction. More in the photos...... read more

Few photos from the way to Asuncion. The most interesting was the police check. We had an official control at the customhouse, but this was not enough. We stopped after this three times to be checked by a single police man. A Bolivian guy had a medicament with him bought in Bolivia for personal use, but no receipt of it. He always had to go out and behind the bus with the police mens and pay everytime around $15 as a bribe to allow him to keep the medicament. I was reading in my guide book few minutes before that Paraguay is the most corrupted country in the world :)... read more

I planned a short visit to the botanical garden, one hour to look a bit on the plants, but I didn't expect how enormous it will be. Five kms legth and around two kms wide, so I spent the whole afternoon in a for European visitors unconventional botanical garden with many types of wild forest from the dry Chaco forest over the semidry forest amazonian rain forest. Everything is natural, as the climate conditions are great to keep this botanical garden. The forest is almost unmaintained, so inside you feel a bit wilderness (if you forget that few kms away is the biggest Bolivians city). I saw many animals, like different apes, huge turtles, etc. I went there just with sandals, expecting a Czech-type botanical garden, so I was surprised to step one meter aside of ... read more
