Hi all, This was definately a week of rest and relaxation. After finishing our fist experience of doing laundry here in Bogota in Abuelita’s patio, we were ready to get out of the city down to ‘tierra caliente’ for some hot weather and sun. We arrived early Monday morning to the bus station ready to start our way down to Villeta. A small town about 2 hours away from Bogota where the climate is much warmer. We were the only 2 people on the bus when the trip started, but little did we know that the captain has an assistant who leans out the bus door and screams into the street the destination of where our bus is going. I guess he did that JUST in case he finds a random person that needs a ride. ... read more

Hey everyone!! Ended up having to stay in Cartagena even longer than planned as my debit card wasnt working so had to wait a few days for that! Finally left at 5am on Friday and got a 4 hour bus to Santa Marta and then a taxi to Taganga! An American girl recommended a hostel to me which I went to - soooo nice! Pool, amazing breakfast, hammocks, free internet etc! :o) Was looking forward to trying to get a tan by the pool that afternoon but unfortunately it rained so just went for lunch with some Finnish guys, read and played cards! That night we had a massive BBQ in the hostel which was really nice and a good opportunity to meet people! Left for Tyrona National Park the next morning, leaving most of my ... read more

The bus station in San Gil was dead when we arrived but we sussed out that buses passing through tout for business on the main road just below the park. We also found a bus company office opposite who go to Bucaramanga every half hour, so on the morning we came to leave we dragged our heels walking down the road and when nothing passed (it was a bit early for buses from Bogota to have got that far) went to the bus office. The 2 1/2 hour journey took us through the Chicamocha National Park and some cool high Andean/big mountain scenery. Despite having a population of over half a million Bucaramanaga bus station was almost as dead as San Gil´s, and we weren't sure how we were going to find a bus to the ... read more

Geo: 12.6618, -71.8066We were at sea today but not able to sleep in too late as we had our character breakfast at 8:30. We met in Parrot Cay and saw Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. After breakfast, Nikki and I went to another Art of Entertaining presentation with the Executive Chef of Disney Cruise Line and Michael Jordan from Napa Rose. They made appetizers. While we were at the show, Regan napped and Kelsie went to Ocean Quest. Right after the cooking demo Nikki and I went to see a presentation by Duckie Williams, one of the Disney Artists. He talked about how he got started working for Disney and some of the things he worked on.We met the girls for the Family Craft at noon but it was the mouse pads that we ... read more

As most of you already know, my desires to travel and experience other places and people are born out of those same desires held by my parents when they were my age. They too fell in love with and traveled extensively throughout Latin America (mostly Mexico, parts of Central America, and Colombia) in the 70´s...a much different time than now. They were in Mexico and Central America for over a year when they arrived in a beautiful colonial , carribean coastal city of Cartagena, Colombia. They fell in love with the city, its people, its culture, and its beauty. So they stayed and became voluntary Cartageneros. I and my sister were born here...hemos hecho en Cartagena. :) As a family we returned to the States in 1983...I was 3 years old. The move was supposed to ... read more

Geo: 10.4137, -75.5336I was up a little earlier today and went out on the verandah to read. We were due into Cartagena around 8:00 so I was surprised that there wasn't any land visible. Around 7:30 I went up to deck 10 to see if there was land on the other side of the ship. There wasn't any but, guess what....it was raining when I got up there. I went back down to the room and Nikki was watching TV. Kelsie had come in after midnight last night and Regan around 2:00 so they were both sound asleep.I got in the shower and then Nikki did and then we got Kelsie up at 8:30 so she could shower before breakfast and we could make our 10:15 shore excursion. We went up to Topsiders for breakfast and ... read more

We caught a collectivo back to Tunja and had our strangest bus experience yet - we found a tout for San Gil buses who went and found his mate, who made a call and got in a cab with us and took us to meet the bus that was stopped on the outskirts of town. They must have really wanted our fare! The journey took 4 hours and we were a bit annoyed to get into San Gil as we'd both just fallen asleep to escape the death defying bus driving. The bus station was completely dead and our first thoughts were that it doesn't bode too well for when we need to leave, we might actually have to wait for a bus! With no map of the town (thanks LP & San Gil tourist website) ... read more

Leaving Bogota we were up reasonably early and squeezed ourselves onto a micro to the bus terminal. Once again we got straight onto a bus about to depart to Tunja and since no one else had taken them we took the 2 seats up front with the driver, which was quite exciting but also somewhat scary to have such a good view of Colombian driving. After 4 hours we were dumped off outside the bus terminal in Tunja where we walked past the collectivos and were soon touted for one about to leave to Villa de Leyva. Villa de Leyva is quite a small town in the Colombian highlands that was declared a national monument in 1954, with its white buildings and cobbled streets. It also boasts the biggest main square in the country at 120m ... read more

On leaving Ibague we got a cab to the bus terminal and discovered that our hotel was only up the road from it, so easily walkable - one of the disadvantages of not having a map of the place. We got straight onto a bus to Bogota that was about to leave and even got a discount too when we didn't buy a ticket immediately the driver's mate came up and quietly offered us a lower price. The 4 hour journey was pretty uneventful and we arrived in Bogota just after lunchtime. We got onto a bus to La Candeleria (the historic centre) and the driver made an attempt to kill Marie by driving off as she was getting off, but luckily she was more off than on and didn't really notice. We quickly found and ... read more

Hi all, WOW, the first week here has been quite the adventure already. After going through customs at the airport and waiting about 45 minutes for our bags, finally we had arrived and received a warm welcome from my family members here in Bogota. Upon arriving at Abuelita’s we were pretty exhausted and overwhelmed. After some small chit chat with family we decided to call it a night as soon as they left. We woke up Friday morning to the aroma of uncle Ivan’s home made muffins which he makes daily and sells them in the street. He has created quite the clientele, typically selling out of muffins within his first hour. Needless to say, his little business has become quite a hit with the locals. We unpacked, exchanged some dollars for Pesos, walked around the ... read more
