Well that little side trip to Medellin turned out to be a 2week residency filled with great people and lots of dancing... my clases of salsa were excellent, so when they finished I took up a few more of Merengue and Porro which were just as cool if not cooler... I kept meeting great people and feeling very at home everywhere I went, I think Medellin is definately a place I will re-visit one day and would reccomend to anyone interested in travelling through Colombia. The only thing that helped me drag myself away, was the Carribean coast calling me for some beach time before going back to Argentina for Christmas, so thursday arvo after sending off a few belated emails I caught the metro to the north end and started walking. The $60 bus fee ... read more

Well again nothing really amazing to report for over the last week, I've just been soaking up the festive atmosphere here in Medellin and enjoying the company of the very friendly locals. I was only going to stay for a couple of days but as always, have gotten a little bit comfotrtable, and just now I've stumbled across a humble little Salsa school out in a suburb called Floresta and so have signed up for a 4clase course so it looks like I'll probably be around here for a little while longer. What has stuck me the most so far about Medellin, and Colombia in General, is that the people are genuinely interested in what I'm doing and where I've come from and make a real effort to make me feel "like a son of the ... read more

Well I crossed over to Colombia just about a week ago and have spent the whole time so far just gourging myself on the exotic fruits and enjoying the thriving nightlive here in Cali, one of the biggest cities in Colombia. Colombian woman are very beautiful but I'm sad to say that I've seen more silicon over the last few days then I have throughout the rest of my sheltered life. Round here you can pick up a boob job for around $1500 and if you know someone you probably get it for under a grand, so it seems to be like a standard issue 18th birthday present or something. And up to now it's been a lot safer then everyone who hasn't been here thinks, and a lot safer then some other places I've been ... read more

I was born in Colombia and I carry this country in my heart because of all the sufferings it has gone through. I appreciate the strong will and hope the Colombian people have to reach their goals despite the every-day struggles they have to go through to have food and shelter in their homes, let alone some hope to progress to something better... someday. I was very privileged to come to Canada and find the Church Life! Nevertheless my dear Colombia is in my prayers. ... read more

South America » Colombia » Barranquilla November 24th 1983

November 24th, 1983 It was a Thursday. At 6:00AM I came into the world. I was born at the Clinica del Caribe, in Barranquilla, Colombia. I was my parents' first-born, so in a way, I would become the guinea pig. So far the experiment has turned out nicely. About Barranquilla Barranquilla is a city in the northern part of Colombia. It lies next to the Magdalena river and the Atlantic ocean. It's only 18 meters above sea level and has an average temperature of 28C (82.4F). Its nickname, "La Puerta de Oro de Colombia" (Colombia's Golden Gate) symbolizes its history for bringing new things and people into the country. My own great-grandfather came from Italy and stayed and later established one of the first radio-stations in the city. Barranquilla has been around since the early 1600's, ... read more
