Hi all, We are back in Bogota after spending a mini 12 day trip to the coast and back. Vicky and her boyfriend Eric came to visit us on October 23rd and we wanted to show them the best areas of the country we have found. We were on a very quick pace to show them as much of the country as possible in 12 days, which is no easy task. Our trip started off showing Vicky and Eric around different areas in Bogota. After getting their yellow fever vaccinations at the airport we went to San Andresito, an area in south Bogota that sells just about everything under the sun at a discounted rate. Some of the items are counterfeit and others are legit. We then went back to the 'Plaza De Simon Bolivar' to ... read more

Hey everyone! So sorry for the delay on the latest blog. This past month we’ve been on the coast living from hostel to hostel and beach to beach.... such a hard life, I know. But seriously, getting time to sit down and write this has been quite difficult. We are now back in Bogota for a few days. Lara´s sister Vicky and boyfriend Eric will be arriving this Thursday to Bogota for about 12 days. We can’t wait until they get here and show them around. Since our last blog we had just left the gorgeous Parque Tayrona, and headed to Taganga where some of our luggage was stored at a hotel. We spent one night there, and then headed out to Riohacha, the capital of Colombia’s northernmost province, La Guajira. La Guajira is known here ... read more

Hi all, Life on the coast of Colombia is quite the paradise. Arriving to this paradise is a whole other story. Our journey to the north coast began on Wednesday afternoon September 17th at 3:30 pm. The bus was quite comfy, large reclining chairs and TV´s. These conditions are ideal for bus rides up to 12 hours. Try and double that with a dose of drunken vomiting teenagers, 2 mechanical breakdowns, being stuck on the bus with stench of vomit at 3:00 in the morning when it´s 80 degrees and no AC or open windows. Add few military check points, and random bouts of the speakers blaring the song “Me gusta, Me gusta” by Silvstre Dangond and you still barely understand what it´s like to ride in a bus for 22 hours in Colombia. Despite our ... read more

Hi All, We just returned to Bogota after one of our most memorable weeks, travelling through various cities within Colombia. It’s difficult to know where exactly to begin with this entry; the experiences we shared with other travelers this past week were complex and beautiful. We met up with a few couples from England and Australia, and a few solo travelers from California, South Africa, Spain and Israel. Our week began embarking on yet another bus from Bogota to the city of Tunja. Tunja is riddled with gorgeous 16th century churches and museums depicting Tunja’s history. We visited a few of the churches and took a tour of the Founders house which still exists. The founder is the only founder in Colombia who after conquering Tunja chose to reside there instead of returning to Spain. All ... read more

Hi all, This was definately a week of rest and relaxation. After finishing our fist experience of doing laundry here in Bogota in Abuelita’s patio, we were ready to get out of the city down to ‘tierra caliente’ for some hot weather and sun. We arrived early Monday morning to the bus station ready to start our way down to Villeta. A small town about 2 hours away from Bogota where the climate is much warmer. We were the only 2 people on the bus when the trip started, but little did we know that the captain has an assistant who leans out the bus door and screams into the street the destination of where our bus is going. I guess he did that JUST in case he finds a random person that needs a ride. ... read more

Hi all, WOW, the first week here has been quite the adventure already. After going through customs at the airport and waiting about 45 minutes for our bags, finally we had arrived and received a warm welcome from my family members here in Bogota. Upon arriving at Abuelita’s we were pretty exhausted and overwhelmed. After some small chit chat with family we decided to call it a night as soon as they left. We woke up Friday morning to the aroma of uncle Ivan’s home made muffins which he makes daily and sells them in the street. He has created quite the clientele, typically selling out of muffins within his first hour. Needless to say, his little business has become quite a hit with the locals. We unpacked, exchanged some dollars for Pesos, walked around the ... read more
