Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.

[View Full Entry]

After a long long bus ride we arrived in Salta at 10pm. Having suprised both myself and Seamus so far by not losing anything, I managed to live up to my reputation and half way into the journey I realised I had left my glasses in the hostel in San Pedro. As we were alreay half way to Argentina there was little I could do until we arrived in Salta. Seamus was more annoyed than I was especially after I confessed I had kicked something under the bed but because I had my big rucksack on could not be bothered to [View Full Entry]

The popular red wine of Argentina: Malbec
Mendoza, Argentina HELLO! A few days ago we booked a few tours to Lonely Planet´s must do´s while in Mendoza: a winery tour and Alta Montana. Judith (the German girl I met in Bariloche, Argentina) and I booked at Campo Base. Yesterday we went to a few wineries, a sweets shop, and an olive producer. Argentina is the fifth largest in wine production in the world. Famed for it´s Malbec. Besides wine, olives and honey are a large Mendoza export. We started out going to a mid-sized winery called Weinert wines. Bodega y Cavas de Weinert is located in Lujan de [View Full Entry]

Herrow...this entry comes to you backdated from my trip. I am reminiscing and using my handwritten journal to jog my memory. I love to snowboard. I learned to snowboard with Scott McLaughlin, one of the three guys that came to visit me towards the end of my time in Buenos Aires. Partway through the semester, my friend Arielle mentioned that she was going to make sure that a ski trip happened during her time in Argentina, and that sounded awesome. The issue being that the season in Argentina was only just starting as I was leaving the country. Scott, Arielle, and [View Full Entry]

These past few weeks have been great, as always. I love my host family. I have spent a lot of time with them lately and it has been a blast. My host brother who lives in spain has been with us for the past month and just left. Last Friday was his birthday and my host sister's birthday (they're twins). We had a nice dinner at home and I met some more of the family. Some of their friends came over later and we all went out to a boliche called Dorsia. It was a blast. The next day was Nicole's [View Full Entry]

Dag 93.
