Iguazu Falls.... wow! WOW! Without a doubt the most amazing natural feature I have ever seen. If anyone knows anything else that might give it a run for its money, please forward details to me as a matter of urgency. I really doubt there is anything to compare, and if anyone makes claims to the contrary, well, I'll believe it when I see it. Upon first laying eyes on the Falls, Eleanor Roosevelt is said to have exclaimed "poor Niagara". I can relate to these sentiments completely. Iguazu makes Niagara look like an impressive backyard water fountain, and Erskine Falls (bless it's heart) look like what happens when a man with prostate problems stands over a urinal. Everything about it was mindblowing. It truly was an all-out assault on the senses. The sights, sounds and ... read more

We left to catch the morning bus from Paraty to Sao Paulo but this was full so we had to wait around for 4 hours for the next bus. This took 6 hours to arrive in Sao Paulo we then took another bus to Iquazu taking 18 hours. We arrived in Foz De Iquazu at 10.30am and stayed at hostel Bambu. We visited the Brazilian falls that afternoon with our new Brazilian friend Chris. We got an open top bus to the trail which was beautiful and gave you an overview of the falls. There were Coaties along the paths and butterflies everywhere. There were so many waterfalls and the main attraction was The Devils Throat, the most powerful one of all. That night we went for Lebanese (as there is a strong lebanese influence in ... read more

Well, after about a day of travelling I am here in Puerto Iguazu, the town closest to Iguazu falls. The bus ride was alright, I managed to sleep quite a bit, and the bus was just about empty. Started out half full, gradually along the way people got off, and by the end of the trip I was the only one left besides the staff of the bus. The hostel Im staying at is pretty nice I guess, its out of town which is a change, but its a hassle to come into town and get money/food. I havent gone to see the falls yet, I am setting aside the day tommorow to see it. Sorry... no pictures again, might put some on at the hostel, depending how good the computers are. I am going ... read more

Didn´t end up going to the park yesterday so we thought we would give the Brazilian side a go today! Managed to get a 2 buses which took us across the border and into the Brazil park. Although the Brazil side is much smaller in comparison it has the panoramic views of the entire falls. It was good to get to do both, as the Argentina side allows you to get right up close to the water, and see everything from close up. It´s hard to get a proper feel for exactly how big it is when you´re too close, but being on the other side meant we saw everything from a distance, and it looked incredible. Still too big to fit everything in a picture unless you´re in a helicopter, but took some great ... read more

Woke up early to get to the park before all the other tourists arrived. Got there just after 8 and walked straight down to the falls. Saw lot´s of Coati´s (Racoon looking things) looking for food, but couldn´t find any monkeys which was a shame. The weather went from bad to worse and the heavens opened just as we caught a small boat over to Isle San Maritn which is an island in the middle of the falls. Tje rain was increadible and we were saoked from head to toe within minutes, neither of us had bothered to pack any wet gear so we were just in our shorts tee-shirts and flip flops. We were however the first people on the island, and I was leading the other 12 of so people up the steep ... read more

I'm in Argentina!! Just crossed over so I have another stamp in my passport. It was a fairly easy border crossing, no searching of us or the truck, so it was quite painless really. An update on photos - I have just managed to add ONE photo to the blog about the Pantanal. This is due to the extremely slow internet connection. I promise I will try to get some more on soon. On the 4th March we had the longest drive day so far to get from Bonito to get to Foz do Iguazu. We left at 5am and arrived at 8ish but because the clocks went forward it was actually 9ish. To say that we were knackered is putting it lightly, especially in the 38 to 40 degree heat! The campsite we were staying ... read more

English summary: Saturday the 18th of Feb we traveled to the Argentinan site of the falls. Here you see the falls falling just below you. For more tips and practical info scroll to our Argentina Total entry. Zaterdag de 18e zijn we van Brazilie naar de Argentijnse kant van de watervallen gereisd. we sliepen in het dorpje Puerto Iguazu. My last entry was from Mendoza, after our day of ´white´ water rafting and night of dancin´under the stars. Needless to say we had to take a break on sunday to recouperate and get ready for some more serious traveling. Monday Lauren and I took a Bodega tour (winery) through the infamous vinyards of Mendoza. We drank some fabulous wines and learned a whole lot about the process of picking, transporting, fermenting, aging, storing and bottling. The first winery we visited wasa smallish family holding where we were actually able to walk out around the vines, stealing samples of the REALLY tart grapes (doesnt take a professional to determine that they weren´t quite ready for harvest yet!), and then we went into the actually processing plant to check out their multiple thousand litre storage tanks! Eeeek, ... read more
