Rain is dripping off the fragile points of trees and smearing everything on the sidewalks. walking home i smelled fresh bread everywhere and it made me want to slip into a nice warm jacket of a cafe and drink coffee and fresh hot bread layered in butter. I am in a slow sleepy mood. Listening to Nina Simone at a volume where I can feel her voice rattle my bones and give me chills. The more I listen to Nina Simone the more I like her. She hits me somewhere deep but leaves me hanging. She makes me feel sexy, joyful, light as a cobweb, moody, strong as an oak. You can tell when I am walking around BsAs and listening to her. There is something different in the strides I take. When I listen to ... read more

many geographical hotspots have their own motto. for example, belize's is "you better belize it!" connecticut's is "connecticut:we're full of surprises." the united states is apparently the "land of the free," whoever that's supposed to be referring to. argentina's is "argentina: un pais, en serio!" which translates roughly to "argentina: seriously, we're a country!" in our three weeks in this "country," we have come up with a few more...how should i say this...appropriate mottos. here's one: Argentina: Your Unreliable Friend because here's the thing. everyone has that unreliable friend, right? you know who i'm talking about. he says he'll be there at 8, but you call at 10 and he says he's not coming. she borrows a cd and only after you've forgotten you ever owned it does she return it, if ever. or, say, he's ... read more

My head is numb from three hours of hollering, noise making and jumping estatically at the soccer game. I cannot possibly do my homework or even think about studying for our History Mid term tomorrow. Forget it. I would rather upload fotos, write a blog and go to bed before two AM. Bad news, Lindsay's computer has a virus and the hard drive is apparently dead. What a pity, all of our fotos are deleted and no more. Not to mention the 8 GB of music she had on the computer or important documents (vegetarian recipes, Rochlin papers, Guitar Tabs and new paper articles). What a shame and what terrible luck we've been having with electronics. I need some ice cream. NEWS FLASH Laura and Chuck have arrived from Canada. They are happy, in love and ... read more

Its been ages since i had something to say or felt like writing, nearly 3 months has passed since i arrived back to Buenos Aires from my tranquilo life in El Bolson, working in hostel heaven. What a memory it will stay, such an amazing place to chill and meet locals and suck up fresh clean country air. Was such a great experience sometimes i wonder why i ever left. Back in the big smokey ciudad is definately a slap in the face and people don´t seem to have as much time for a lazy chat. This is the hardest part of starting from nothing in a new city. A small circle of friends makes finding a flat and a job definately a larger steeper hill to climb. It took sometime to find a place to ... read more

Football in Argentina is a very serious business. They even have a museum for it. When we visited La Boca football museum and La Bomboñera stadium in a tour, and saw it empty, I was curious about how would it fill when it's full, because although it had 60,000 seats, it looked pretty small. The match to which I bought a ticket was for the Argentinean Championship, so I hoped it would be exciting. But in reality it was just one big celebration, because La Boca had already won the championship by a points difference. One of the fans has told me that it's totally different when the game means anything, and the result is not known in advance, so I was disappointed. Nevertheless, the stadium was almost full, the fans were singing like crazy, and ... read more

Before departing for Argentina on Thursday afternoon, right when the limo arrived at our home to take us to the Atlanta airport, I realized that I had misplaced my small Moleskine notebook and did not remember where it was until we had left the house. So my first priority in Buenos Aires on Saturday was to find a replacement notebook for my travel notes. Sergio and Joaquin were not too thrilled about having to follow their father on a search for a stationary store, but they were lucky, since I actually found one selling agendas and pocket calendars relatively quickly. A 3 ½” x 6” agenda was the closest thing to my Moleskine and would have to do. Next, we headed for another leather store recommended by Lonely Planet. We crossed 9 de Julio Avenue’s all ... read more

Well it has been a little while since we have been in touch, however before I fill you in on what we have been up to and some of you may be aware of this already but Mikes Nana unfortunately suffered a stroke a couple of weeks back and so we have decided to head home to see Nana and spend time with her and the family rather than continue to Europe. For those of you who know Nana she is doing well and was able to return safely to NZ on Tuesday from Canada where her and Grandad Mike were holidaying. Ok so to continue on I think the last you heard of us we were in Arequipa, South Peru. Well after (yet another) 14 hour bus we arrived back in Lima and were out ... read more
