Good evening everyone! In a desperate attempt to aviod homework I decided it would be a great time to add a little blog! Not much has happened since we got back from Colonia, We went out last night to a club called Azucar (sugar) which is a salsa club, and danced the night away until 6 in the morning. The music was great, and a welcome change from "musica electronica" or trance music that dominates most of the clubs here. There was also a little show with some of the salsa teachers which was amazing, the ways they could move their bodies hypnotized everyone on the dance floor, especially the men. Coming from Canada, I'm not really accustomed to men who know how to dance... so it was interesting to see. (Hint to all men in ... read more

Today is my mama's 3rd annual 55th birthday. I am trying something new today. My room has been transformed into a cafe. I am sitting on my bed, headphones glued to my head. Coffee thick and sweet with real cream and sugar. Currently I am examining my red varnished nails and cursing my truly uncomfortable bed. I know Jeff would fight me to the death on this one. His new foam mattress (mine is also foam) is 100 times better that his old bed made of sleeping mats and blankets. Foam mattresses for Jeffs in Olympia may be perfectly fine but they are not good for Lizzzes in Buenos Aires. My mattress holds the shape of someone else and there is not enough room for the both of us. I am developing back problems. I think ... read more

This has been an amazing weekend! The official tour of Buenos Aires has been really helpful in understanding the seat of power of the country! It's also an extremely beautiful place. San Telmo and Boca are my favorite areas. Recoleta cemetery is also really interesting, sort of like a city within a city. The tombs of all of the rich and powerful figures from history are all gathered into one small area of the city, much like the cemeteries in New Orleans - before Katrina anyway. They are full of tourists, the whole city is full of tourists. San Telmo is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods, one that looks liveable, just nice place to be. There are fashion markets and antique fairs along with the various tango orchestras playing in the streets. It was fun ... read more

Well after a gruelling 16 1/2 hour flight, I made it to Buenos Aires! I am staying in San Telmo which I must say looks pretty amazing so far. Luckily for me, I have arrived on a Sunday when the street I am staying on closes to cars and a huge market opens up. The streets are thronging with people watching the buskers, shopping for antiques or, like me, indulging in dulce de leche ice cream! I can´t wait to get out into it over the next few days. Now to get over the jet lag........ read more

The day after my last blog update I headed out to the end of the subte (metro) line D and then walked 30 blocks in the pouring rain to get to where two rugby clubs were supposed to be. I basically came up empty and soaked to the bone. However, a girl in the hostel has an Argentine boyfriend who used to play in the burbs. Thus on Saturday I took an hour long train ride up the coast (some amazing little places along La Tren de La Costa) to San Fernando to watch three rugby matches and get in contact with his former club. The club was more of a complex than anything else, equiped with two fields, stands, a restaurant and a bbq pit where they had ridiculously expensive smokies and steak hamburgers at ... read more

I will start this by announcing this is now Sally writing, not Sehrusaan. The reason being Sehrusaan has gone missing. So, if any of you happen to be in BsAs and find a red and white sock puppet, please email me. He went missing from my pocket at Glam, a nightclub in Palermo, on Saturday night. We arrived in Buenos Aires on Good Friday, so it was quite strange to drive down 15 lane roads in the bus and see hardly any cars. All the people seemed to be either at home, at church, or in one of the thousands of parks around the city. The hostel I was staying at was in a nice area, not too far from the city centre by the subte - which is short for subterranean I think and is ... read more

I arrived in Buenos Aires yesterday to finish off my six plus months in the Americas. The three days spent in Mendoza were not quite as eventful as we had hoped due in part to our hostel location and to the fact that it was Semana Santa, or Easter Weekend. First, while the hostel itself (Chimbas) was well maintained, and the staff were excellent, its location 5 minutes from the bus station was rather inconvenient because it was so far out of the city center. Second, since it was Semana Santa, while all the hostels had been booked up, the entire town was empty...seriously, it seemed as though everyone had just picked up and left, or died. We still had a good time, but the difference (in population) was quite noticeable on Monday, when I took ... read more

ok, maybe not everything fun has to live up to this criteria...but don't tell me there is not a parallel there somewhere! the experience of riding a bicycle down the world's most dangerous road is definitely helping to prove this theory. but more on that in a bit. after sending kirsten and brian off and saying goodby to our machu picchu family (which i heard from my sick-bed, was quite the dance party!) rick and i had one more day/night in cusco, before heading back to the peruvian side of lake titicaca for a bit more island hoping. this was also the Saturday evening prior to peru's national presidential election, which is taken quite seriously. alcohol is forbidden and as evening sets in, police patrols are visible and restaurants and bars close early. upon hearing this ... read more

Hello everyone, I hope that everything is going well for all of you that have recently finished the semester in Canada, and that you all had a wonderful Easter break with lots of rest, relaxation, and of course, chocolate. We actually have so many new things to write about that we keep forgetting what we’ve done and think that you already know all of our exploits and adventures, but finally we sat down and wrote a little list out of things that have been forgotten, and as well, our wonderful trip to Uruguay. So I’m here sitting in my apartment, drinking red wine, and finally writing to you all. TANGO So, once a dancer - always a dancer, in short: I have found a Tango partner and we’re ripping up the dance floors of BA. A ... read more
