The day itself was a little overcast but the setting was fantastic. I spent the whole day looking around vintage and modern aircraft and watched some exciting aerobatic displays.... read more

The next day I travelled to Wanaka to see, amongst other things, the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow. We stopped off at Lake Matheson along the way.... read more

We went to Wanaka a week before schedule in order to find a mechanic and plumber about our water tank problem. After a lot of hassle, turns out our tank isn't 45 litres big, and we're using about 20 litres a day without showers! (Because of the problem we were going to campsites and showering there). Anyway, Wanaka was a pretty town on the lake, but the coolest thing was a little place called Puzzling World. It was an exhibition with some mind-boggling rooms! The first one was tipped at an angle, with objects cleverly positioned so that the snooker ball rolled up the table, there was an "Anti-Gravity Slide" where the bottom of ride was at the top and it felt like you went up the ride, and the water flowed uphill. There was also ... read more

So with no water on the West Coast, I elected to boogie on down south. I did drive by touristing of both glaciers. The weather wasn't really worth spending lots of time. It wasn't raining, just misting and cloudy and bad visibility. But beautiful scenary none the less. The best scenary may have really been between Haast and Wanaka. This drive was just amazing. The drive is through a river valley, with Mt. Aspiring on the right and I have no idea what mountains on the left. At one point I just had to stop taking pictures because I wasn't making any time down the road. I didn't really spend much time in Wanaka, I was on my way to Glenorchy... past Queenstown. But I did stop and go into Puzzle World. This is really cool. ... read more

Just needed to get some photos off to all of our fans! Paris is going to school in Whangaparoa, New Zealand for a month. He has to wear a uniform and his school is called a college; Orewa College. He is in 10th grade which is equivelent to the 9th grade in the states. He is living with our friends Angela and David Howie and their two daughters, Nancy (16) and Anna (11). We will be picking him up again in a few years! The following photos are of Natalie, David and I (Christie) traveling on the North Island. We drove from Auckland to the northern tip of the island and back down to the southern tip. Now we are in Queenstown getting ready to do the Routeburn Track which is a 3 day hut trip. ... read more

Getting over my disappointment of Franz Josef was made a little easier by our arrival in Wanaka. The journey from FJ to here went through some of the most goosebump-making scenery I have seen so far in NZ. It is hard to describe and most adjectives and pictures really cannot do it justice, so I don't think I am even going to attempt this challenge. Just take a look at the pics and see what you think. First of all we stopped at Lake Matheson, probably one of the most famous kettle lakes in NZ if not the world. Yes, those kettle lakes don't half get around in these glaciated countries. Again, the weather was not playing ball and the usual glass reflection of Mt Cook and the Fox glacier could not be seen in the ... read more

It was a long trip to New Zealand but it was worth it. When I got to the airport in Singapore there were 6 other flights going to Sydney and they all were delayed by 7 hours. Mine had not come on the screen yet but it didn't look good. When mine did appear on the screen it was running to time, about the only one that was. After so many long bus journeys the plane trips seem to go by a lot faster now and before I knew it I was in Sydney. Even though it was only 6am the temperature was 25 degrees. I only had a couple of hours here before getting on another plane and heading for Christchurch. This plane was a little tin can compared with the 747 that I was ... read more

Have been sampling lots of random activities since I left the Stray bus (maybe those teenagers were a sensible influence after all!). First I went to glaciers and played in big spiky shoes at crawling round and walking on ice. Got a helicopter up there which was also very cool. In Wanaka I've just been going mental and did mountain biking round the lake (soooo beautiful) - the tourists were all pointing at me like I was some some of local mentalist. Then did a bit od walking. Then learnt how to rock climb. This was amazing. I wore my spiderman watch especially and was trying very hard to be as good as spiderman himself, but I think it was more a job of hanging on for dear life. Especially on this massive boulder we had ... read more

Skydiving is so cool it gets its own blog. The weather wasn't playing the game, but I finally got to jump yesterday. I jumped with a madman with a dead dalmatian round his neck. It was very cool and there were mountains with snow and big lakes underneath us. I was a bit scared when I saw the girl in front of me hurtle away into nothing, but it was amazing when we fell and I think I look very beautiful in my outfit. I was look even more beautiful on the DVD where my face is stretched and my nostrils are flared, but I will be boring you all with the DVD when I get back, so I'll just post some pics for now. Def the best thing I've done ever tho - want to ... read more

Fortunately the latest rips in trousers have not included injuring the body beneath them. My poor Rohans have another rip in the backside from chicken wire on the board walks on Stewart Island (sitting down to try and heave my rucksack back on!). What on earth caused my 'smart' black trousers to rip very embarrasingly I don't know. I thought I was getting smaller not putting on weight....They have been consigned to the textile recycling bin in Dunedin. I hope I didn't walk around too long with them like that. I was giving a lift to a 19 year old Swiss guy that day. He didn't say anything so either he didn't notice or was too embarrassed himself! Anyway, back to putting photos on and catching up. I've walked up the Rob Roy valley today for ... read more
