Yay!! A new destination! We're now in New Zealand. The poverished travellers we are we decided to book ourselves into the most expensive hotel in the world! The Carlton hotel is a mere 5*s! Our room was on the Penthouse level and included an invitation nightly to the Carlton Club Lounge where we received complimentary pre-dinner drinks and canapes-me and Paul always chose Champagne and filled up on canapes!!! Showing our true origins!!! Every evening-another benefit-Paul called the concierge and requested we have our evening garments pressed and when we returned from the club lounge they were already hanging in our closet-could definitely get used to this!!! The first night Siobhan and Evelyn from Fiji joined us and we all went out for the evening. Loads of fun-in the local backpackers club. (Backpackers party better!) Over ... read more

So I quite my job on Saturday, I was a little disappointed that I wasn't fired, which is one of my goals for this vacation. I should explain the establishment I worked at called "no specifics"; it's located on a beautiful beach, has a beautiful view of islands in the Pacific and the Corromendal peninsula but unfortunately that's where the attraction stops. I think I should have figured out that it was a shitty place to work when I found out that there was no staff discount on alcohol (this of course was a shock to me after working at the "Library" which had a liberal staff alcohol policy). Also the managers treated everyone like there where better then us, I don't really think being a manager at a shitty/unpopular bar on an island that has ... read more

Had a wander around Auckland city centre today. It was a bit cloudy and raining so we came to the conclusion that it was just like Manchester back home. Walked to the park to see everyone setting up the Chinese Lantern Festival that we would visit later. Next I threw myself 192 meters off the Sky Tower! I was fairly calm until I actually had to walk out on a ledge overlooking the skyscrapers below, then the old legs felt a little wobbly, but once I stepped off it all felt a bit surreal dropping to the ground. In the evening we returned to the park to sample some chinese celebrations and eat some tasty asian food.... read more

So we arrived in Auckland early afternoon and caught the shuttle bus into Auckland town centre. Firstly, its a lot colder here than in Australia, which would take a bit of getting used to after the warmer climates of the East Coast. We headed to Base, off Queenstreet and decided to have a sleep as we were pretty tired after the journey and a fairly late night in Sydney. We went for a stroll around town to see what the city had to offer in terms of food and found a nice Italian down at the harbour. We went for a free beer in the hostel bar that night and there was a foam party on, so we spent some time watching some bloke dancing very strangely and throwing foam on everyone. Bed time was calling.... ... read more

Hey hey friends and whanau where ever you are! Im flying down to Queenstown early tomorrow morning to move in with my good buddy Forest. After a great 5 months back home in Waiuku, Auckland I feel ready to move on again. Has been awesome to catch up with all the family and bros, had some epic sessions out our local beach, Kariotahi, heaps of good nights, and a few afternoons and mornings with the beers and most of all a wicked summer in the sun! Celebrated my 23rd on Saturday in downtown Auckland with TC and Jake and then again yesterday, monday, at Groove in the Park with Ma, Ems, T and a big crew. Sal D rocked out along with Dick Johnson, Sam Hill and Nice n Urlich. Was fun dancing in the sun ... read more

Well today was the last day in Auckland, but we sure did go out with a bang. Due to it being Waitangi day there was a GIANT music festival held in the domain. I mean there was every single person in Auckland there! Laying around people watching was fantastic, I swear everyone is 100x’s more beautiful in NZ. I don’t know what it is in the water but, DAME! Both men and woman. It was great. So after that we got shouted (NZ for to treat or to pay for) to a F-A-B-U-O-L-U-S dinner in the sky tower (which is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere). I mean, wow. Fresh sea food just caught, from what I heard amazing meat, all the wine we could drink, and the best part…Dessert! Oh let me tell ... read more

Hi all, So we are almost off! Thanks to all who came to the farewell last weekend and to those with whom we have caught up with in the last few days. It's been a mission but we are finally realising the dream and are off on our adventure! We're gonna miss all of you heaps, so keep in touch and let us know what you're up to, wherever you may be. Our main reason for this site is so that we can upload photos along the way for you all to see, but hopefully we'll also write from time to time and tell you about our adventures. For now, I've got to go and get all the music ready for the trip, so I'll write more once we're on the road. ~kel :)... read more
