It has been almost 4 months since my best friend (Cheryl) boyfriend contacted me about getting her an engagement ring. It is common law that anyone wanting to marry Cheryl, April or I but consult the other two before making any decisions. So between planning that whole hoopla we decided to do a girly (and boys) weekend in Vegas. It had been way too long since the 3 of us saw each other, and the timing was right to celebrate their engagement. Well our simple lets get dressed up and "slightly intoxicated" weekend turned into so much more. Cheryl's sister was able to get us free tickets to the Tim McGraw concert that weekend through her work. Well it get better given her company was one of the sponsors they got us backstage to a special ... read more
The semester/year has come to end and so came the difficulut task for packing my entire life in New Zeland back into two suitcases and a backpack (a very hard feat indeed!) only one break down when i really didnt think i would get everything home, but somehow i did and headed out. Nathan and I rented a 'camper van' for a few days to give us transport and a place to stay (given i got kicked out of Lincoln and we sold our car). now this was more of a mini-van with the back seats removed and replaced with a bed and table and a kitchen in the boot...it was pretty cramped but we made it work. So in our new ride we took off for the west coast one more time (we were both ... read more
So the only thing I wanted to do was go walk on a glacier for my birthday, nothing too big right?! Well according to mother nature and karma it just wasen't in the cards this year. Nathan and I took off from Canterbury, bright-sunny-warm-perfect, and headed to the west coast, as soon as we started heading over Arthur's Pass and through the Southern Alps, the weather turned nasty. Big, black, gross looking clouds holding tons of water just waiting to drop their load on us. And drop it did, my the time we made it to the Rainforest Hostel i was about in tears, how could it be raining...AGAIN! Trying to get me to cheer up, we sat in the hot tub under the storm with someother travelers from Oz, the US and Chili. Actally had ... read more

August was such a nice month, only a week and half of school and the rest of the time was spent in a car touring around the south island with Mr. Nathan. We started our adventure at the north/west corner of the north island in a little area called the Tasman. I would say this is my favorite place…well… ever. Able Tasman national park starts at the coast and fills up almost that whole corner of the island. We decided to do a two-day hike, which consisted of being taxied (by boat) to Tonga bay and then hiking out. There are many different ways of doing it, walking in, walking only parts of it, and basically in any bay you can catch a taxi! So convenient. The views during this hike are out of this world! ... read more
Well, amazing at it may sound, I am actually free to spend way too many hours sitting in Mrs. O’s (a coffee shop on campus that has free internet, and my only access to internet) updating this crazy travel blog nonsense. So lets see, it has been what…10 weeks since I last told you all about the New Zealand scene… to be completely honest, this semester has been a little less…crazy… then the last. I moved out of dorms and into a flat on campus with 3 other people, older people, so our time is now spent cooking dinner, watching mindless TV (which I might add is the DEVIL) and doing homework. I have officially written more essays this semester then I have my entire academic career combined! Stupid me taking a philosophy class, a sociology ... read more
Nathan and I went on a great weekend trip up through Arthur's Pass and then to the West coast and North to the Pancake Rocks. It was so beautiful! Now i know i hate the cold but there is something beautiful about a snow caped mountain in the background. The problem is when there is snow on the ground that things get a little...cold if you will. The hike we did through Arthur's Pass was a very nice not to hard 2 hr tramp. But Arthur's Pass is at a very high elevation...meaning snow on the ground. But i did not fall...almost...but i saved myself. There were waterfalls in the distance...just wonderful. We then headed another hr to the coast and about 2 hrs up the coast to the pancake rocks. The sun was setting the ... read more
WE WON!!! Thats all you really need to know. It was a great game, we totally kicked ass, and it was real fun watching Nathan trying to fallow the game...little bit different from the video game. ... read more
So I was real excited to show my mom Kaikoura, my favorite town in NZ so far. But as we arrived into town the rain fallowed up…I swear just my luck. Mom was a good sport, she even walked out onto the cliffs to try and see some seals…too bad they were playing hide and seek. It was funny to see my mom trying to hide from the rain. So we headed back to good ol Lincoln to plan the next few days. Christchurch was our next destination. We got a nice little place called Camelot hotel right on the square. It was fun. We spent the time enjoying the artzy side of CHCH: the art fair, the art gallery, cute cafes, the cathedral itself - very nice. I even got my mom to go out ... read more
I have to give my mom major props, she left the beautiful California summer to the dismal New Zealand winter just to see me! I love my mommy. Like all great trips she was delayed, almost 6 hours due to engine failure in LA…thank Buddha they found that b4 they got in the air!! But with the beautiful technology my dad and I stayed in touch so I wasn’t at the airport for a million hours. It was really funny trying to get her to stay awake past 6:30pm, granted it was like almost 12am her time so I guess it is only fair. It was so nice to have her here because I got the call that I could move into my new flat so she got to help me pack up all my ... read more
