Dear Friends and Family, We now embarked on the luxury portion of our trip, cruising aboard the Celebrity Century to the South Pacific Islands of New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. The cruise ship had plenty for us to see and do including art auctions, movies, live concerts, Broadway style productions and even a kids centre for Riley. We had set dinner reservations with a family from Melbourne. Alex and Aja were great company and their kids, Vincent and Luca were so good with Riley. Our first port was the bustling port of Noumea in New Caledonia. We hiked out to the Bay of Lemons for a day at the beach, then wandered around town. In the afternoon, I went hiking further afield to areas that tourists don't usually see. It was a little nerve wrecking when ... read more

Sunday, March 2, 2014 I was up really early this morning, had a hard time sleeping last night. Not sure why this happened, however it really did. I headed down the Royal Promenade and settled in at my usually spot, in front of the Irish Bar. I was able to get caught up on my blog. Cindy woke up at 5:45am. We promised Jenny that we would skype her this morning, it would Saturday for her. After getting dressed quickly, we made our way to the High Notes lounge, 14th floor of the cruise ship. This is where one of the hot spots was and we can prep for our skyping with Jenny. It was great seeing her face and hearing her voice. We chatted with Jenny for 5 minutes. After skyping, I dropped ... read more

We had 4 days of port calls in a row and now we're on the last leg of our trip to Sydney which is our last port for this first portion of the trip and the first port for the second portion of our trip to Australia/New Zealand. We had no idea we were on two separate trips until we got on board, but that's the way it's counted. Now a lot of people are leaving the ship in Sydney tomorrow and a new group are getting on. We're going to miss our new friends Susan and Jon (from Canada) who were great about saving us seats for the nightly shows. We really enjoyed their company very much! All the islands we visited during the last few days were wonderful and gorgeous. In Vanuatu, we an ... read more

Oceania » New Caledonia October 9th 2012

9 October 2012 Tuesday. We arrived at Lifou Island of New Caledonia shortly after breakfast. The weather was overcast once again. Nevertheless, Linda and I lined up on the sixth deck for the pass to get on the tender which would take us to shore. The island looked interesting from the ship…a low lying limestone and coral island with plenty of palm trees and some stretches of white sandy beaches. A church was located on the hills on either side of the beach we were headed for. Upon landing we walked to the grass shacks that sold souvenirs, and Linda bought a lava lava or sarong or whatever they call it in New Caledonia that our daughter could use as a table cloth. Then we walked to the top of the ridge which formed the backbone ... read more
