Stormy night. Sarah awoke at 3am when a rucksack fell on her head from a shelf above. There's a brief panic before we start laughing. Time for a midnight feast. We've never eaten a whole Terry's chocolate orange in a nicer place. Tonight should be good fun we are having a traditional lovo meal (food cooked underground).....and the dreaded Kava cermony. Kava Ceremony...island men dressed in traditional costume. Kava looks and tastes like dirty, gritty dishwater...before sending your tongue and mouth numb. We both try it...but its not that bad....we may even bring some back for you lot to try. The lovo meal was nice. Pork, chicken and veg washed down with fiji beer....yum.... read more

We walk round the island the opposite way today...but Sarah is concerned that the tide is coming in.... "We might get cut off...." You can take the girl out of Holy Island, but you cant take Holy Island out of the girl. We complete the walk in 15 minutes. Talked Sarah into kayaking round the island...for a bit of variety. Go snorkelling later..followed by a few G&T's. Starting to slip into holiday mode now.... read more

Caught the YF to Bounty Island...it was the first stop. We are staying here for 3 nights. Transfer from the YF was in a glass bottom boat. They toothless Fijian skipper is a colourful character. The sea is crystal clear. We are met by a traditional Fijian welcome song....we have to reply....."Bula, Bula Bula"....it means hello in fijian. We are in Bure Nr 12, smack on the beach. Windows on 3 sides. It has its own bathroom and air con. We unpack and decide to go for a walk. We walk round the island, past the set of "Celebrity Love Island". Its a bit disappointing as all the fixtures and fittings have been removed, but the bath in "The Love Shack" is still there. We take a few snaps. Nice hammock infront of the Bure. The ... read more

Arrived in Fiji at 1.30am local time. Flew over ID Line so its now wednesday...time flies when you're having fun. Lots a taxi drivers touting for business. Sat on comfy leather seats, very welcome indeed. Opposite is a rather large (20 st) Fijian bloke. He is wearing a traditional Fijian sulu (skirt) and he is asleep. His legs are at 10 to 2! I ask Sarah, if he is wearing pants....she tilts her head slightly and confirms that he's not. She's seen something horrible.....and I quote "it looked like a big black sausage with at least one furry testicle!"....He's snoring. Took a sligh pic which we will add later. Our coach to Denarau Marina isnt scheduled for another 6 hours, this is where we catch the Yasawa Flyer (transfer boat) ... read more

We had one day to spare before flying out Sunday morning, so we used Saturday to go back into town and get some things done. First, we check our e-mail and Lynds finds out she does not have a working visa, which means she can’t enter the country of Australia. This is when things get hectic and we all start calling and e-mailing trying to figure out what we can do to get her visa. Of course, the time is about 5 p.m. in the US on Friday, so there’s not much we can do. After figuring out Lynds will have to stay there, we try to make the most of our afternoon. We were all craving America, so we found a movie theatre and went to see The Island. It was an interesting experience! It ... read more

We woke up the next morning really sad having to leave the island. Lynds went on another dive for more advanced divers and loved it! She even saw a shark. MN and I used this time to relax and enjoy the beach before we headed back on the ferry to the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu. We got back on the green bus and started our drive back to Nadi. The drive back was through much of Fiji’s Indian culture. Therefore, we stopped and had lunch at this Indian Restaurant called Mr. Chands. We could go on and on about how amazing this meal was. It was literally the only thing we talked about all day! So great! Of course we all overordered, so we had plenty of leftovers to take on the bus. The ... read more

Again, we woke up early since we had gone to bed so dang early. We were excited because we had an entire island to explore and there was no bus riding today. The three of us decided to rent some kayaks and try to find some seclusion. Lyndsey started to complain that her kayak was heavy, but we just kinda ignored her because we could tell she was still a bit drugged up, haha. We started kayaking around the island and it was absolutely beautiful. There were rocks everywhere, and it was perfect, the day was beautiful. Lynds started to get further and further behind, so MN and I were seriously starting to doubt her kayaking skills. We started to give her some hints, but nothing seemed to help. We kayaked to our first piece of ... read more

We yet again boarded our bus and headed to the markets for some food. Lynds and I were determined to find the McDonald’s for a sausage biscuit, but we were all too consumed trying to find an open money exchange place. We had to settle for a cheese bun, which ended up being very good, and also bought yet again some more Pringles for snacks. This must be our 5th can of Pringles, as we literally buy 2 a day. It is the most American thing we can find, and we are all worried they might forget to feed us haha. So we headed to a children’s home about thirty minutes from our hostel. We all sat down and were greeted by the children singing to us. It was absolutely adorable! The home is for children ... read more

I woke up a bit earlier than everyone at 630 and decided to check the beach out. I found this great rock and sat for about an hour writing in my journal and just enjoying one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen. The water was crystal clear and it was so great to be the only one on the beach, what solitude. Anyway, we boarded the bus and headed for what would end up being our most tiring day, our trekking day. After stopping in the city to load up on snacks (and breakfast for us three, me and Lynds didn’t trust their food for two meals). After getting those we headed to the beginning of the hike. We took about a 2 hour hike through the rain forests of Fiji. It was ... read more

So, I boarded the flight in Los Angeles Saturday night at 11:30 p.m.....I arrived in Fiji at 6:15 a.m. on Monday morning. It was quite strange skipping a day, but luckily I slept quite a bit on the plane, so I was really excited to be in Fiji. I walked outside and the humidity was the first thing that struck me. After that, all I saw was the most beautiful mountain range I've ever seen. I don't know what I thought Fiji would be like besides golden beaches and clear water, but mountains were certainly not what I thought of. I caught a taxi to the Nadi Bay Resort Hotel to try and find my long lost travel mates. After being informed they were in dorm 5, I excitedly went to wake them up. It was ... read more
