So back to Fiji.... The island I stayed at was absolutely amazing. I really need to catch up with my blogs because it is tiring writing about old stuff...so I'll go kind of quickly. (again…I’m not going to edit this so sorry if it is a little sloppy) So after that crazy hike that I talked about in my last email I ended up at this village. The village was right on the water in "one of the islands in the yasawa group". I'm staying at in a room that a lady name Adi rents out to tourist (but I am the only one there). Like I said before things were a little slow when I first got there; but after settling in some of the locals came bye to see who the new white boy ... read more

Bula (hello / welcome / what's up..in Fijian), Let me just start this off by saying that the Fijian people are absolutely amazing!!! I have never met nicer, easy going, hospitable people then the people that live in Fiji. It really is impossible for me to describe how genuinely nice everyone is here. So I arrived at 5:30 got right onto a boat and headed away from the "main land" and to the Yasawa Islands. (I dont what to say exactly where I was because it was a hidden paradise and I'd kinda like to keep it that way.) So i get to my "secret island" around noon. There are three "hostels" on the island and i get dropped off at one on the most southern tip. The hostel was completely empty so I told the ... read more

With no job, a ridiculous shaggy haircut, and not a lot of money, I have very quickly become distant to my former life as an International Playboy. And the final remnants of my former existence ran out at the end of 2004 with the expiry of my British Airways Executive Club Card. It did, however, give me one last hurrah, as it gained me access to the Qantas lounge in Auckland airport during our 10 hour layover in between arriving from Tahiti, and flying out to Fiji. With the Auckland rain dissuading us from a sightseeing trip around the city; we took refuge in the executive lounge, with free internet, luxury showers, and plentiful food, drink and newspapers. My Hawaiian shirt, board shorts and flip flops got the odd disapproving stare, and the lady who ran ... read more

After returning to Nadi from the awesome feejee experience, i had 4 days to kill, so i decided to head to beachcomber island, it reputation is the backpacker party island and it is heavily advertised in Nadi, but i found it to be quite trashy untidy and too touristy being herded onto the island along with the other 60 visitors they get everyday!!! you kind of feel like a sheep, 100+ bed dorm room and its numerous shaggers & snorers. The nightlife is probably the best thing about it (apart from the amazing sunsets) but after being on Robinson Crusoe island it did'nt really measure up for me and you could tell the fijian performers were'nt really up for it either. You could see it in their eyes, like they've done this a million times. But ... read more

Bula Vinaka! What a beautiful country!! 'Lapped by clear warm turquoise coloured water, fringed with vibrant coral reef and cloaked in the emerald green of the tropics fiji is the paradise seekers dream come true'. From Lonely Planet 2004. i cant put it better than that! Stepping off the plane at Nadi airport your body is instantly envoloped with a warm suffocating humidity & you immediately feel you are in a foreign land. There is a party atmosphere everything is totally relaxed (fiji time). Which basically means you add 20 minutes onto everything. Which means everybody here is a lazy git. Which means i was at home here. Your senses are bombarded with the smell of fresh fruits on a nearby market, the fijians have tendancy to spontaneously break out into song with drums and guitars! ... read more

dear everyone, well today is the last day for my blog journal in fiji.i decided that for a while longer i will keep up the journal for my friends abroad who want to know my adventures.(yes sandie, you expecially) as i look back at my month here i remember the excitement of me landing in nadi airport and smiling thinking i'm home.i got in quite early in the morning so i didn't see the greenery that i experienced later in the morning.my god!i wish everymorning i could see this.the birds chirping, the roosters yelling their good morning, the lizards making their clicking noise and the cows being walked to the pasture. the ladies get up everymorning and make fresh breakfast and serve their kids and husbands.reeta, monica and kirin now u know why i make such a fuss in the morning ... read more

hi all,i'm sitting in L.A and can't believe the hustle and buustle of life here compared to fiji.the airport alone is so big and i feel like an annoying mosquito.i miss the little Nadi airport that looked like it was held up by matchsticks. Raju was worried thati would have problems with my luggage and i had to give him a quick lesson on flutter power.god bless men and their powerlessness towards women. i had a great flight, slept through the movie of course.i'm sure my family knows the deal with me and t.v. looking forward to seeing everyone but not looking forward to the long layover(3hours).WHERE'S THE BAr.when i think of seeing kirin's face and the wonder she must feel not having her mom on a daily basis near her makes me sad.i hope she understands ... read more

dear everyone, last week i booked myself a getaway to a resort in sigatoka(pronounced"singatoka")and i've decided if i was to live anywhere in fiji this small city would be it.it is surrounded with lush green forest and hills in one side and long streches of white sandy beach on the other.there are lots of small native fijian villages along the beach area where i'm sure my family could blend in quite easily. the resort was called tanbua sands and the only people there were couples and seniors on their retirement vacation.i booked myself a cheap studio loft but got upgraded to a beach front bure."flutter power". my room was so cute and it faced the beach.i saw some fijians in the open water fishing with spears and diving for the fish. i read my book by the ... read more

Stayed in the pool and the dorm most of the day as I had a heat rash on my arms. Met a guy called Geoff who was on the bus before I went to Beachcomber. Had a few beers with him and a guy he met on a surfing trip he had just been on Chris. He was from cornwall and was leaving on the same flight I was to Auckland at 5am the next morning so we promised to get the other up if he wasnt awake. Everybody in the hostel seemed to join our table so it got quite late and Me and Chris only just got up intime for our flight. Got a taxi to the airport and waited in the airport for longer than the flight was going to take!!!... read more
