Woke up and went for a walk to the top of the island. It was huge compared to the other islands i went to. Full of secluded beaches and rock pools. Checked out and jumped on the boat to take us back to the mainland. Got on the bus and headed for Lautoka town. I had packed all my shoes in my bag which was now under the bus so once we had stopped I went to get some cheap sandals with Danyel. We didnt realise the rest of the group had set off to the restaurant so when we got out of the shop we couldnt see anybody!! We walked up and down the street for ages getting stared at by the fijians, the people of suva are not quite as friendly as Nadi or ... read more

Up early at Nadi Bay to pack my bags and go for a swim before the Beachcomber bus picked me up. Said goodbye to Danyel and jumped on the bus with Brett. Only took a small bag with some clothes, camera etc and left my rucksac in storage at the hostel. (will be back here after Beachcomber before i leave for New Zealand. Drove through all the posh resorts and picked more people up then arrived at the jetty. Got on the boat for beachcomber and went passed all the islands in the Mamanuca group ranging from huge forest filled islands to 10 metre sand dunes sticking out of the water with someone having a picnic!! Compared to the other islands I had been Beachcomber was really busy and more commercialised. Rather than a local fijian ... read more

Got up early and set off for a traditional fijian village. Everybody put on their sulus and t shirts. Monica the guide I had on the first day before Robinson Crusoe Island had said men dont have to cover their shoulders as the women do. The guide now however said men have to cover their shoulders so I had to put on one of Eddie the driver's flowery shirts on which was twice as big as me! We had a cava ceremony and the kids sang songs for us then we headed to the river to go bili-bili rafting. The raft was a few logs tied together and one to push the raft with. I had to stand at the back and push the raft while the others sat on the front. The chief from the ... read more

Checked out of the beachouse at before 8 30 and waited for the experience bus to pick us up. Said goodbye to Nathan and Beccy (they were staying at the Beechouse for a few more days) and set off for the hike through the jungle. The bus couldnt take us all the way to the start of the hike so we all had to jump on a tiny van. Not enough room for us all so we were sat on the floor drivin on a very bumby dirt track towards the jungle. We got off the little van and met the guide 'Sulu'. We had been told to wear really sturdy footwear but Sulu was hiking in his flip flops!!!It was hard to look at the scenery around us because as soon as you looked up ... read more

The Fiji Experience bus came to pick us up in the morning after we had checked out of the Hotel. Inroduced to the driver and the guide and set off towards Nadi town. The guide told us about all the things we would be doing in the next few days and that we needed to get a 'sulu' (sarong)from the town for when we visit the village because it would offend the chief if we are not dressed properly.Walked around the town and the markets with Casi. Bought a sleeveless t shirt ,as i was still in my only top and shorts, a sulu and some sunscreen, toothbrush etc. As we got to the market we were approached by a Fijian and he said to come and have a cava ceremony with him at his stall. ... read more

The three days I spent on Robinson Crusoe Island were fantastic. Some people said they got bored on the island because there wasnt much to do - chilling out in the pool, swimming in the cristal clear pacific ocean with all the fish and coral a metre or so below you, fishing with the staff to catch the food for the nights dinner, snorkelling further out on the edge of the reef, kayaking around the island and out towards the sea, watching the traditional dances and firethrowing etc put on by the staff, playing rugby on the beach with the rather large fijians, sitting in a hammock on the beach with a beer or a cocktail, playing the many drinking games Ziggy comes up with, I could go on for hours. Maybe its not for everybody but ... read more

We jumped on a little river boat and started heading out towards the sea. The river kept getting wider until we could look back at the main island of Fiji from our little boat. Went around the last corner and then we could see the island. Tiny white sand island with palm trees everywhere and little 'bures' (huts) spread out over the island. AS we got closer we could see the staff waiting to welcome us. When we got close they started singing their welcome song and dancing on the beach. We were dropped off and everyone elses bags were taken for them to the reception.I still didnt have mine yet. We were introduced to some of the staff, checked into the Hostel then showed our dorm and left to explore the island. ... read more

I was welcomed in the airport by fijians dancing and singing even though it was 5am.Went through customs and waited at the baggage collection. After a good sleep I was ready for my first long day in Fiji. Carried on waiting for my bags as people rushed off to see the sunrise outside.Only a few people left and a pram going round the carousel.Somebody had asked a security guy if there was any more bags an he took us outside to the last trailer of bags. Not there either so filled out the missing bags form and wondered off towards the exit. A fijian guy opened the door for me and said I looked a bit lost, didnt find him very funny!!... read more
