Kuata was our 3rd island that we visited on our trip around the Yasawa Islands. i found that is Island was more filled of the younger generation and the younger families of Fiji, rather than the older generation. We arrived in the evening and myself and Mandy climbed the sumit to see the sunset. It as a little cloudy but not too bad. Great exercise. our living qauters were great ... well great in the fact that we had our own bathroom... it was great. No more sharded facilites. There were a great range of activies that we were able to do on this Island. We had Jet skiing, caving diving, snorkling with reef sharks and much more. we spent most of our days sunbathing and snorkling.... it was great. We were here for 2 nights ... read more

Our second Island was Manta Ray Island, this was more of a Upper Class Resort. Amazing living facilities and great food and entertainment. We were only here for 1 night but it was one of our best nights so far. Mandy and I got Upgraded into a little hut that was situated off the beach and amoungst a whole lot of tropical tress. We also had a fan in our room, great thing to have in any room in Fiji. We had a great buffet dinner which was followed by a traditional song and dance that was put on by the village people. There was a storm that night but there was no rain and now wind, only lightening. We spent most of our days sunbathing and snorkling. to our dissapointment it was not Manta Ray ... read more

Bula Everybody! Welcome to the wonderful Island of Fiji, where the sun is unbearably hot and the rain sets in at about 3pm everyday..it's paradise on Earth to be sure......... Ok, so maybe i've made it sound a lot worse than it really is, but i was NOT expecting or prepared for this type of weather - i was supposed to be topping up on my tan before i came home, not baking to death and dodging the thunder storms! Enough of the negatives though, let's focus on the good stuff. For starters the Hostel was nice, which is ALWAYS a good thing, although there's no kitchen so you have to eat in the restaurant each night - not too big of a problem though as the place is pretty cheap! All the staff are pleasant, ... read more

Beautifull Fiji Well the trip begins in the beautifull Yasawa Islands of Fiji. Myself and Mandy ( travel buddy) spent the 1st night at Nadi in a lovely hotel that was situated at the waters edge. We had an outdoor pool, which was surounded but palm tress and hamics galour. Early that morning we departed for our cruise around the Yasawa Islands. After spending 4 1/2 hours on a boat we finally reached out 1st Island. We stayed in the lovely Sunset Island Resort. Mandy and I had the Bure package, which meant that we had a room to ourselves, rather than sharing a dorm with 8 or 12 others. Glad we did that, as the heat was unbareable in the dorms. We stayed at Sunset Resort for 2 nights, and a great 2 nights it ... read more

We slammed onto the runway in Nadi in the middle of a tropical thunderstorm. Zero visability on the runway, and it appeared that the plane's altimeter needed recalibrating because we really walloped the runway. We spent only 1 night near Nadi (pronounced Nandi) before heading out to the Yasawa islands. The boat trip north to the Yasawas is spectacular. It takes you past the Mamanuca islands which are a string of coral islands that look exactly how you would draw a desert island; a lump of coral/sand only just peeping out above the sea. The islands are covered in palm trees and are surrounded by fringe reefs. Pretty attractive. The Yasawas are a bit further north and are rock based islands. They rise further from the sea and are more interesting - I think. They have ... read more

Whilst staying at the backpackers over the weekend, and talking about my impending travel plans, I got asked a number of times what I was thinking quitting a job that sends me to Fiji... ... I have yet to come up with an answer... read more

In September, my friend Danielle and I took a short trip to Fiji. We stayed the first night in Nadi before hopping a boat to Mana Island. Mana is in the Mamanucas just west of Viti Levu. The film “Castaway” was shot on one of the other islands in that group. While we were there we managed to meet three hilarious Scottish girls, almost get run over by a plane at the local airport, and go spearfishing with a guy who had a furry nose. After returning to Viti Levu, we crammed into a van with about 10 other people and headed towards the Coral Coast. The driver played a tape that consisted of pop hits set to Pasifika beats- think Will Smith with a tropical flair! We managed to work in some scuba diving and ... read more

by caroline DAY 97 Our flight today is 12.10pm, back to Carcacas yet again. The worst thing is saying goodbye and that empty feeling you get. We arrived in Caracas at 6.30pm, at the Catimar hotel we head to the bar for supper, we ordered 2 beers and got 2 strawberry milkshakes good to see our spainish has improved. Day 98 Flight to Dallas is 10.24am, on arriving in Dallas we have to make our way to security where for some reason my camara sets off an explosive alarm, just my luck. Tim's looking a bit panick stricken, anyway no worries apparently this happens all the time. Whats daft is you can just walk out side and have a smoke, with nothing stopping you from just walking out into the street. L A is much the ... read more
