5-2-10 Fri - we decided to do some sightseeing at Rockingham, we booked the car in for a Gas Service next Tuesday , then we headed out to see Peron point, Mangle Bay & Shoalwater Bay. It was nice with lots of secluded beaches & places you could snorkel, swim, fish & take the dogs. We will go back there one day & take a picnic lunch. The Naval Base is out in the bay with a big bridge over to the island. We then went down to where the ferries go out for Penguin Island, & to get some times & cruise info. It was very nice & we had a coffee at the Café there. We then had a drive around & had to get some bread , so went to the Rockingham Shopping ... read more

Good evening all! This week i managed to get my Open Water PADI Diving certification! It was such a great experience and something i hope to do again and again. The week's lessons started in the classroom with about 3 hours of theory work before we headed to a local pool where we went under water for the first time and learned some skills which we would later be tested on out in the ocean. We did the theory and pool work for 2 days before heading down South in the minibus to a beach side town called Rockingham. This was where we did our two shore dives to around 8m. There was a wreck dive here in which planes and boats had been linked together and mapped out by a rope, the only trouble was ... read more

20/10/08 Monday Day 67 Arrive into Rockingham around 4pm after coming from Fremantle and Rottness Island, without booking a site for a night in one of their parks. We found out that 2 were full and finally we found one that was free but it was a bit out of town. The owner man was a bit weird though. He was like a really gay aussie del boy. Quiet funny! We didn’t have any supplies either so we decided to get a bus into town and eat there instead. The bus stop was right outside the entrance so handy enough you’d say except it went to the bus station which was in the middle of nowhere! We eventually found another bus to take us to the “city” centre, which we actually drove through earlier on finding ... read more

We have been so lucky as to be able to stay at a friend’s beach house in Rockingham. We set up in their backyard, and Margaret and Ralph arrived on Saturday morning to open the house and deactivate the alarm. It was lovely to have a home base for a while and to the kids delight a TV! Saturday afternoon was spent wrapping Father’s Day presents and relaxing. The kids got up early to surprise Rod, but what they don’t realise is we hear them thumping up the camper steps. Anyway Rod scored well, with DVD, new billy, camp toaster, chocolate and socks. Everything had to be able to fit in to travel home. The kids set about doing some writing and we went out to explore around Rockingham. Found a nice old Tudor hotel in ... read more

We are now into our 3rd week in Oz and finally seem to be getting somwhere!!! We have taken a holiday rental in Golden Bay in the South which is lovely .. we have an 'upside down' house overlooking the Indian Ocean until the end of December so we sleep downstairs and live upstairs!!! It is a lovely house and is closer to the dogs in Byford so we can make the trip now in about 30 minutues compared to the 50 minutes is took us from the city. Doug has been for 2 jobs and has been offerd both so at least we know he is definately in demand over here!! He starts his new job on the 10th Decemeber and will be the first 'pomme' employed there so should be interesting!!! We have now ... read more

Day 221 (01.11.07) We were up early and on the bus to Rockingham a little further down the coast from Freo. The coast of WA where we currently are is rich in it's wildlife and today we were hoping to see some penguins on the aptly named Penguin Island. We'd found so far on our trip that, if an island/place was named after an animal e.g camel beach, shark bay, barracuda point etc., then you'd never actually see the named animal at that place. Today we were to be proved wrong! We'd done some research and sightseeing trips seemed fairly pricey but we'd spotted that you could get a ferry over to the Island for a fraction of the cost of a tour so decided that was our best option. The extremely helpful lady in the ... read more

Hi all, well on Saturday Jean took us down south a little bit to see the penguins on penguin island- unfortunatly we didnt see any wild ones, i think they were all hiding from the tourists . We saw some tame ones being fed in the discovery centre though. After penguin island we went to Point Peron to look for shells in the rockpools, my footwear was not that good for rock pooling but i was surprised at how well the grip on flip flops can be . After Point Peron we headed for a very busy Rockingham to go on the beach for a well deserved bit of sunbathing...our tans were fading- we've saved them now though . My back did get a bit burnt (theres always one bit the sun tan cream just doesnt ... read more
