We are nearing the end of 2009 and our 2nd full year in Australia. Sorry the blogs have become few and far between but life has become pretty normal over here and we have our routines down to a fine art! Our 3rd Australian Christmas was a really quiet one. Still doesn't feel like Christmas should and I don't think it ever will. I feel like we bypassed Christmas totally this year and just didn't get into the spirit of it at all but hoping that next year will be different as we have family coming over to celebrate with us! Butler is fast becoming civilised (yay!!!) and we nearly have a completed beach at Jindalee. The pub 'The Cornerstone' opened in style at the end of November. It's a very english pub and has a ... read more

Well, we are well and truly into Winter now and boy have we been cold! We've had bad storms and really heavy rain and I think because this year we are living closer to the coast - we seem to have been hit even more with the bad weather. There was one particularly bad storm one night with heavy rain and thunder and gale force winds that we thought the roof was going to cave in - we have a steel colorbond roof so it makes the noise of the rain and wind even louder - sort of like camping indoors ;0) One weekend we gave in trying to ‘get dressed’ for bed which included thick pjs, socks, and a hoody top and went out a bought an electric blanket - bliss!!! We also put 2 ... read more

Winter finally arrived on Thursday - a massive storm came in on the Wednesday night and it has virtually been none stop wind and rain ever since. Since I have lived in Australia I have become so mard and if the temperature drops below 15 degrees I moan and moan about how cold it is - I can't believe it and wonder how I would cope with the UK weather when it is -2 and freezing cold ... brrr!!! We finally had our housewarming party in January on Australia Day weekend and it was so nice to have a house full of people over for the first time since we came out to Oz. My friends gave us a lovely fern plant as a house-warming gift (I haven't killed it yet!!) and spolt Doug with an ... read more

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2009!! Merry Christmas from Down Under (again!!). I had a lovely Christmas Eve at work and had the pleasure of recording the RAC Christmas Choir who sang traditional Christmas carols as well as the aussie alternative ones such as Jingle Bells (dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden ute!!!) - which had me in stiches (all this in 30 degree heat!!). I have the strangest job at the RAC and basically do lots of shopping trips, organising events and sales incentives - I also get to decorate and theme rooms in the Call Centre for Christmas etc so as you can imagine it's quite a laid back job and I am finding it quite difficult as I have always worked to really tight deadlines and had busy hectic jobs! Later ... read more

I can't believe that as I am writing this we have been in Australia for over a year! It has flown by so fast and I still can't believe I live here! We have finally moved into our own home - it was such a relief to get out of the rental house and finally have somewhere we can call 'home' after all this time! We live in such a lovely area and as it is a brand new development there is always something going on such as festivals and get togethers. It also means that there are a lot of migrants so you can talk to other English people and find out how to do things out here and also catch up on the UK gossip! We got the keys to the house on the ... read more

Well, I have just celebrated my second birthday and also my 9th wedding anniversary in Australia. The first one was 5 years ago and was spent in Cairns on the beach in glorious sunshine watching wild dolphins swim by this year it was a working day and raining and grey so just like being in the UK! We decided to just have a quiet night in and celebrate at the weekend instead and thankfully the weather picked up so we had sunshine! On the Saturday night Doug cooked a lovely dinner and we had a bottle of champagne ... lovely! On the Sunday we went down to the beach with the dogs and had a lovely walk until we were rained off! You could see the weather coming in from the ocean really fast. It is ... read more

It's been nearly 3 months since my last blog but we have been so busy and so much has happened. After getting back from the UK we both had the worse homesickness and we found it so hard to sink back into life out here in Oz away from all our family and friends. It didn't help that we were only home for such a short time and never got to do hardly any of the stuff we wanted to do. When we left the UK the weather all week had been really nice and sunny day and immedately after getting back to Perth we had about 4 weeks of constant grey skies and rain. So we couldn't get down to the beach as much as normal so found ourselves really down in the dumps. The ... read more

As Doug's Grandma Winnie was 100 years old on 7th May we were certainly not going to miss out on the party and seeing her on this special occassion so we planned and schemed along with my dad, Doug's mum Ann and Dad John (poor Ann nearly had a breakdown trying to keep our visit a secret!) for the past 6 months that we were going to go home and join in and surprise everyone at the same time!!! We arranged for my dad's friend Paula to come out to Oz along with her husband Andy and little girl Lulu for a holiday to look after the dogs (after the effects of quarantine on the dogs could never put them in kennels again!) so that we could fly home and we set off on 30th April ... read more

We have now been out here for nearly 6 months and time has flown. At last Dougie has bought himself a motorbike after months of buying auto traders and going through reviews of bikes etc (I am sick of hearing about bikes!!!) Even though it is a lovely one!! He has always had bikes since he was young and has always wanted to ride one in Australia so in a way is fulfilling his dreams! The roads out here are really bad and the traffic is a nightmare especially on the way to work as most mornings for a large portion of my travel to work down the highway never really get out the car out of second gear .. oh yes I insisted on a manual car .. can't be doing with automatic ones :0) ... read more

Not too sure what happened to this blog as it seem to have disappeared along with the pictures .. so apologies if you have hundreds of email notifying you it has been updated .. here is the final version along with the missing pictures :0) ******************************************* So much has happened since the last blog. After weeks of application forms and interviews I finally accepted a job offer. I am so glad I waited now (even though at times it felt like I would never find a job that I wanted - I am so grateful to Doug for being the best husband and my best friend through it all as he has been so patient and reassuring - I even have forgiven him for getting me the application form at McDonalds!!) as I have landed a ... read more
