On the plane to Adelaide, I sat next to a lovely woman called coleen, who decided to give me a lift to my hostel when we landed. I thought this was great! She has even given me her contact details to go stay on her farm 2hours out of adelaide next time Im down that way! So arriving in Adelaide, I met hayley at the YHA and went straight on the beer! After 3 or 4 with her friends, we decided to head back whilst having a tour of the city. Surprisingly, we found a bar with cheap jageybombs! so we stopped for that famous "one last drink". Next thing, a bunch of crazy americans came into the bar, the tequilas were bought by the bottle load and it turned into the best night! Its a ... read more

Melbourne Finishing the great ocean road we hit Melbourne city, Melbourne was a cool place but the temperature was anything but... a heatwave hit 43'C and family back home saw it on the news as they were experiencing snow. Melbourne had an indy-esque culture unique to any other city I had experienced. At first I wasn't the biggest fan of this, but after a couple days and some exploring I began to love this city and its uniqueness. The night before we travelled the great ocean road we stayed at a terrible hostel in the centre of Melbourne, grubby and we were awoken many times in the night by scurity guards. So for obvious reasons once we returned here, we decided to try a new hostel. We stayed in the YHA metro. Similar to the one ... read more

Hello all, After an excruciating 3 weeks back at work following our trips with the Barnes', we were saved by the arrival of the Harper family where a whole new adventure began and another week on vacation. We started in Sydney showing everyone around our digs and had a great evening out that started out with a picnic in the botanical gardens with fresh seafood from the Sydney Fish Markets and finished with an outdoor movie with a screen that emerges out of the harbour water with an incredible backdrop consisting of the Sydney skyline, the opera house, and the harbour bridge. From Sydney we flew South to Melbourne where the 2009 Australian Open Tennis tournament was already in full swing. Not only were we able to take in the unique streets and cafes of Melbourne, ... read more

So there goes, one of the great international events here in Melbourne, The Australian Open tennis championships, one of the 4 Grand Slam tournaments ! Talk of the event before it started was..... the floor. Plexicusion to be quite exact, and all in a lovely bright blue. What's in a colour anyway, the balls were still yellow, and some of the outfits the players sported lacked more taste, apart from the long legged East European girl players of course, their outfits just lacked length... which was ok by me ! I spent both the Saturday and Sunday in the middle of the 2 weeks at the Open, taking in the atmosphere, the very hard shots, the long legs, and unfortunately also some of the bad weather. I was prepared, or rather, they cater for bad weather ... read more

The agency I have been getting work though have been ok, trying to get me work as soon as they know I’m finishing somewhere, but it’s only days here and there. I got a day’s work in the Cricket Victoria office, which was cool as it was all the coaching staff and they were all pretty relaxed and loved my Scottish accent. So much so, that I even got talking to a girl on the phone who works in a charity and her husband is Scottish. That’s another thing I love about this place, everyone is so friendly (except taxi drivers) and always ask how your day is and spend time to speak to you, no matter who they are. I was just covering reception, but it was easy and friendly. It dawned on me throughout ... read more
