A lovely little island, where the world superbikes racing circuit is for Australia, there is also a penguin colony, which are approx 35 to 40cm in size, come off the beach at dusk each evening, to sleep on dry land.... we saw this happen, so amazing to watch hundreds of little things come in from the sea, and waddle up the beach... Also some fantastic scenery, the picture taken is of the Nobbies, which is the largest population of seals in Oz.....shame they were too far to make out of the picture.... read more

Having 2 weeks spare before heading to Tamworth for the Country Music Festival, I decided to take my French friends Lilli & Jenny up on their offer of a lift to Melbourne, as I had found them a home on our driveway whilst in Broome. Matt came down and we had an 8 hour road trip to Andrew's - a family friend whom I met at June's on Christmas Day. The guys hung out at Andrew's with us for a few days, before heading into the city to sort out work etc. Andrew took me to Philip Island for the weekend and to see the main sights of Melbourne. I also got into contact with Ben, whom I met in Thailand, which was random and cool!... read more

Well after about two months in Australia, I figured it was about time to see some real Aussie wildlife. The only animals and birds I had seen so far were small larakeets, while interesting and colorful, became very annoying. Cockatoos’, which were even louder than the parrots, flying fox, which are rather terrifying, and possums. One of the guys I had been hanging out with, Martin, from Tasmania, suggested we venture out to Philip Island. The trip by car would take about an Hour and a half. Philip Island was the place to go to see the famous penguin parade, the Koala reserve, and Kangaroo feeding. I couldn't wait. So we headed out for a day of adventure on the island. When we got there, we headed to check out the koala reserve. We just walked ... read more

Yay! Had a lovely few days with the girls- (me, Abbie, Geraldine and Vikky (Abbies co-teacher at school) at Phillip Island just off the coast from Melbourne. A friend of Gel's leant us her holiday cottage for one night which was really nice. I managed to drag Abbie along to the see the penguins (she's been 3 times). So cute- little fairy penguins waddle up the beach to their nests in groups of tens. I wanted to stuff one up my jumper and take it home with me but Abbie advised against it. Not sure my bath is big enough... The next day went to the nobbies. Sounds weird but its sort of a craggy coast line with rocks and seals although the seals are miles out. Thousands of gulls though with cute fluffy babies and ... read more

G'day everybody. Happy Friday! Finally off the tourist trail. For the past week all we've seen are tiny little goldmining hamlets, fishing villages and fields full of huge woolly cows. We've been to pubs that were built for the miners, where they still have a corner devoted to gambling on anything ranging from chariot races to crab races. Haven't met another pommy for some time and all the Bruces and Sheilas want to talk about is their fishing conquests and how many Great Whites they've caught. I asked one guy whether he had a knife handy for when he'd reeled the shark in and he just laughed and said "Nah, ya need a bloody gun!" Having said that everyone's been incredibly friendly and it's so nice to meet such patriotic people. Phillip Island is famous for ... read more
