Close your eyes and tap your heels together three times and think to yourself, "there's no place like home" - the good witch Melbourne has been a funny one. Settling here with Saoirse was easy, it was the right thing for me to do. I think it may have been a little harder for her to adjust to me crowding her independent and self sufficient self but it worked well and we are both in a very strong place now. I never found employment but easily kept myself busy running and writing and there were no end of delightful events. Going to see “Wicked” at the theatre was brilliant (Still nothing beats Les Mis!) and a night at “Draculas” was so much fun. A day trip up Eureka tower to view the rest of the ... read more

Thats right... exactally one month from today (American Time) I will be landing back on U.S. soil. Not that I am going to be breaking any speed records, 4 flights and who knows how many (35ish?) hours of transit I will be back in Minnesota. How weird! Like Melbourne is where I live and work, etc. Its weird to think that I need to leave this life and go back to another one. I just can't believe how fast the time has gone. Still working at QinetiQ (don't know if I said that already) until I leave which is nice to know I have work. Now just thinking more about everything I need to do when I get home. I know I need to just enjoy the time I have left here, but seriously where has ... read more

Happy Easter! How odd being away from home this year. I have had a nice, not so relaxing weekend off of work anyways. On Thursday night one of my flatmates had a party so we had about 30 people here until all hours of the night, not so much fun… I was going to go up to Tathra for the long weekend, but with the party going on Thursday I wanted to be here to make sure people weren’t going into my room etc. You know… So then by the time I would have gotten up there on Friday there was not much point. So I got to stay down in Melbourne. All of my flatmates were out of town except for Alan- who had FIVE friends stay here for the weekend. So having 5 boys ... read more

Since I have last updated the bushfires in Victoria are all out due to cooler weather and a few bits of rain. Towns are still closed through there has been much support from both around Australia and overseas. The rebuilding efforts are just starting and it will be a long process until things are back to ormal. Two weekends ago Andrew and I went down the Great Ocean Road for the weekend. It was really nice to get out of the city, even though I had already been down the Great Ocean Road last December. We stopped in Lorne the first day which is probably the most popular (and therefore most expensive!) stop along the G.O.R. It is a small beach resort town full of rsturants little shops and the beach. It is the town where ... read more

Well my trip started off with a little glitch... I was supposed to be at Andrew's house two hours ago and I was still in bed! Thanks to having my last day of work the night before, then dinner and drinks with work friends after, and then packing at night I seemingly overslept my alarm! Well it worked out as the Brett's were running behind as well. A few hours later Andrew, his parents, and I were all packed IN to their SUV. And I mean packed in. But 7.5 hours of driving later (well mostly sleeping for me!) we arrived in Tathra, lower east coast of NSW. We were spending the next 6 days here, along with his 3 sisters who came up the next day. The week was full of wlks on the beach, ... read more

Up earlyish start today as going to Brunswick Street with Sarah. We had a walk around all the many boutiques, this is what i like about Melbourne, all the quirky shops and things! We stopped in one of the many cafes before leaving Sarah at lunchtime and walking into town. We walked down Brunswick Street, Gisborne Street, MacArthur Street ( where the museum is ) onto Collin's Street in the CBD ( Central Buisness Centre ). We met Lee as Chris had left his jumper in his car and it was quite breezy today, a little cold! We then walked down Exhibition Street, along Flinders Lane and took a turn down Hosier Lane, this is where the famous graffiti's are, they are everywhere, all over the walls, street, bins... but amazing art! Then we went on ... read more

By the time we got up today, both Annie and Lee had gone to work. we waited for my friend Sarah to come and pick us up as we are going to the beach! We got to Sarah's, she share's a house with 4 people, and we were staying in the newly converted garage. We went with her flatmate Georgia and another friend Kate, through Brighton to Half Moon Bay. A really nice bay they had found a couple of days previously, nice sand and the water was waist high all the way out - ideal for swimming! Came back for 5pm, Georgia went to work, and we cooked up some nibbles - zuccini muffins, noodle salad and chocolate brownies - YUM! We were going to an outdoor cinema in the Botanical Gardens - this is ... read more

Up at 5am to get ready for our train. We caught the Overlander from Perth to Melbourne ( managed to save 40% by having the YHA passes ! - brilliant thing to have! ). We left at 7.40 am and arrived at 6.40pm local time - a long day! During the trip a person explains points of interest as we go along - quite interesting, as well as the history of the tracks and trains. We arrived at Southern Cross Station then had to find our way to Annie and Lee's (the daughter of Wilf and Sheila's next door neighbour, who we met on Christmas morning ). We bought the tickets, but couldn't find which platform to go to. Chris asked the ticket person who said " there is no point looking at the boards, they ... read more

Normally I sit around at the end of a section of traveling and write all about and then post it for all to see. It's been at least 2 weeks since I've posted stories about my travels in Tasmania, so even though I'm not finished this section of my traveling, I figured it was about time for an update. I arrived back in Melbourne from Tasmania the morning of November 28th and moved straight into my home in a suburb called Brunswick just 20 minutes outside the city. I'm sharing a room with Nicole in a large shared house. My other housemates are Marine (an 18 year old girl from Belgium whom Nicole met in Sydney before I got there), Nick (a 23 year old guy from Hobart), Scotty (a 23 year old born and raised ... read more
