When we grow up and during most of the time of our childhood we listen to our parents or people that we look up to and that we think knows best. Then somewhere on the way we start to question things and take two steps back out of the bubble we live in and look at ourselves, and the world we live in, with different eyes. Some of us realise that we don’t have to act or do like we have been told while some of us continue without any further reflection. I myself realised this pretty reason and I start to understand myself, and the person that I am and want to be. There are no rules. Going to university, getting a career, buy a house, getting children or travel the world. When you realise ... read more

This time the blog post might not be as jolly and cheer-full as usual. But that’s how it is sometimes. I think this one is more for myself, to put it on black and white, to simplify it and to make it easier to see that, that specific moment is not that bad. It’s just in my mind. The last 2 days I have been in a down place (I can now see that it was only my mind playing tricks with me). It happens from time to time if I don’t take care of my mind and myself. I get stuck in my own mind with painful negative thoughts that doesn’t want to disappear. Or at least that’s what I think at the time. I know now that its just thoughts. They are not the ... read more

After having a beautiful dinner, having a very well needed shower (we did conquer a mountain after all) and a really good night sleep we waved goodbye to Jim, Jamie and her family. Next destination was the Blue Mountains. Just the name makes it feel mysterious. Who doesn’t want to get lost in the Blue Mountains… …we didn’t really get lost tho. We actually had some (more) family to visit J Sean and Manoo live on a beautiful farm surrounded by fields, animals and (of course) mountains. Their house is an absolute dream house. It has a relaxing and comfortable feeling with a beautiful artistic touch. We parked our van next to a little lake on their property not far away from their house. (a morning swim in your own lake is the perfect start of ... read more

If someone asked me 3 weeks ago when I was rolling around in my own deep thoughts about life that I would actually make it all the way to Oz… I don’t think I would have believed them. But 2 flights, many sleep tablets, a massive jetlag and many many kind advises and words – I’m here. Or Weare here! It has taken me almost 4 days to get back up on my feet and I can now finally enjoy the beauty around me. I realised for the billions of times that there are no rules, it’s ok to be overwhelmed and that I’m not the only freak in this world. Happy days! Enough about that. First impression of this massive country? Its massive. Here are trees everywhere! We are now out in Frankston, a seaside ... read more

Monday 6th We wake to grey skies and a blustery wind and set off for Phillip Island. We drive into the centre of Melbourne and the satnav does a good job guiding us through the roads. I only take one wrong turn, get tooted once and one chap waves to me, at least I think he’s waving ! The weather gets worse through the day with gale force wind and rain. We eventually reach Phillip Island and park at our site, not the prettiest but the best we could get at peak holiday time. Phillip Island turns out to be like the Isle of Wight with place names of Cowes and Ventor. We have a short walk through Cowes and it gets colder and I buy an extra jumper. In the evening we feel colder than ... read more

FRANKSTON to BALLARAT Today is the first day of our big adventure. We (Nicole, our dog Koby and I - Nicci) are planning on a 4 month trip from Vic - SA - WA - Darwin and back down to SA and then Victoria. Secretly we would be thrilled if we just make it to Perth and back again. First leg has been from Frankston Vic to Ballarat. This is where our lacking of confidence and skill shone through. We were not sure if we had tied our Jerry can down well enough on the roof so Nicole had to keep sticking her head out of the window to check, resulting in her loosing my fav pair of sunnies. We finally arrived at our destination after a quick stop at the shops for a gazebo, prawns ... read more

We spent our last day in Tasmania driving around the outskirts of Devonport, admiring the farmland and walking along the beach at Shearwater. It was an extra low tide with a wide sandy beach – we smiled at the big distance between the life savers on the sand and those few in swimming. The shells growing in abundance on rocks looked like baby mussels. We went back into town and had a last look at Devonport - all done, tick it off. We did enjoy our time in Tassie. We had our early start yesterday, leaving the caravan park and queueing at the Devonport wharf to catch the 9am sailing for Melbourne. There were other motor homes, caravans, cars and motor bikes waiting to board. It was another smooth nine hour trip, made pleasant by the ... read more

On Saturday we headed off early at the campgrounds and stopped at a charming Tea House just off of the highway. It was run by a lovely couple and after the coffee arrived we decided on some scrambled eggs for breakfast. When you can hear the eggs being prepared in the kitchen and the toast being buttered you know it's as fresh as it gets and the result was a delicious meal to start the day. With Tasmania just around the corner we needed to get closer to Melbourne in preparation for the departure on the Spirit of Tasmania. Just after lunch we found a caravan park just out of Frankston on the Mornington Peninsula. The remainder of the day was reasonably slow as we caught up on a week's worth of washing. The sky was ... read more

After a most fabulous week in Sydney I made my way down to Melbourne and I have to say at first glance, it didn't impress me as much as Sydney. Sydney is more of a high rise city whereas Melbourne is more open, which is nice but whereas in Sydney everything seemed to be easily accessible from Central Quay, Melbourne seems much more spread out. I did spend a day there, I visited Victoria Market which I have to say I loved, the food part anyway, and I picked up something for lunch. There were so many fruit and veg stalls. I had a wander down to Cook's Cottage but didn't go in as I wanted to see as much as possible in my day as I didn't think there would be enough to warrant coming ... read more
