We met Paul and Claire, our friends from Mexico and San Franciso in Townsville. Had dinner with them and then the next day met at the Aquarium in Townsville. It was OK. Then headed over to the Aboriginal cultural center for an hour of aboriginal dances. It was interesting. Townsville was lovely. We stayed right on the beach but of course no swimming because of the stingers but they have a huge pool right on the beach in town. Kind of a good compromise to the ocean. Left Townsville and drove for a few hours to the town of Airlie Beach. There we got our Whitsunday couple of days organized. We had wanted to stay on Hamilton Island for a couple of days but full up so it was suggested that we go to Hayman Island. ... read more

So after tearing myself of my hammock in Rainbow Beach i decided to pop up to Hervey Bay to see what's there was to see there...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!... apart from getting caught up in a storm and got totally drench. In fact it was actually real nice to see it coming the dark black clouds, it was so low that at one point i was standing right under it, the clear blue sky to my right and the low dark clouds hanging over my left. As always camera is out clicking away, the storm was close, in fact it was so beautiful when the wind sudden picked up and seeing the sand been blown over, i tried to capture the movement but was so unlucky my battery was out and within seconds the it tipped it down ... read more

Sunshine, Sandy Beaches and Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef For our second day on Hayman Island we had planned a snorkeling excursion to the opposite side of the island. Snorkeling is big in this part of the world due to the close proximity of the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s top snorkeling/scuba diving locations. There were a couple of options available to us when it came to this adventure. The first was an all day boat trip which departed early in the morning and could accommodate up to 300 people from various resorts around the area. We nixed this idea quickly upon discovering that it was the most crowded and most expensive option. Our second option was an hour and a half boat trip on a semi-submersible boat along with at least a ... read more

A Long Weekend in Paradise After spending one night in our overpriced and not so great hotel in Airlie Beach, we set out for our long weekend excursion at one of the world’s great resorts, Hayman Island Resort located in the far north of the Whitsunday Islands. We had to get up pretty early - I know quarter to six is not that early for most of you but at this point it is pretty early for us. We packed our things and took the ten minute drive down to Shute Harbor to catch our boat to the island. The weather in Airlie Beach had been kinda nasty for the last couple of days with intermittent rain developing throughout the day. While rain is never what you look for on a holiday, in this case it ... read more
