Must start this by saying... Happy Birthday to the most wonderful lady in the world - Jacinta!!!! Hope it was full of love and happiness! Big birthday hugs and kisses from Ryan, Noah and I and the puppies. xoxo The alarm went off at 5:30am today, yuck. We got packed up before the heat got some sting to it, so I guess it was worth it. Still we weren’t ready to leave until 7:30am, which means there is lots of time we can shave off, it’d be nice to take 30mins – hour to get on the road. Today was the first road journey where I haven’t had this niggling guilt in the back of my mind reminding me that I should be studying while Ryan drives. Ah, the simple pleasures in life, no more study, ... read more

The distance from Charleville to Roma, our next destination, is the best part of 300 kilometers so on Saturday 1st October we tried to make a prompt start. But Graham got chatting to some neighbours who had just acquired a trailer-tent and were trying it out for the first time. Knowing that Sarah and Darryl are now more interested in a trailer-tent so that they can go off-road a lot more, Graham was asking how they had coped, was it easy to put up and put away etc. They seemed thrilled with it and were looking forward to some real off-road adventures. We managed to get away by about 8:45am and made good time although the road was very “bouncy” so we couldn’t go very fast. The journey was relatively un-eventful and at about the half ... read more

Good morning Goondiwindi! The place of much exhaust braking. And yet the travel guide assured us this was the quietest caravan park in town. I’m glad I haven’t experienced the other 2! Before breakfast I spent some much needed time behind the car tightening and adjusting the hitch – I didn’t want a replay of the day before. The travel is all part of the journey – a thought that pervades my driving. As we move along, I find the stress lessens each day – and comfort as the hitch works perfect. The only ‘stressing out’ times are typically dinner, and bed time. Both involve small (and not so small) children being tired, and unable to make decisions, or listen to direction. We saw our first wild emus today running through some fields. A well-deserved break ... read more

Hello there Over Easter 2010 we finally accepted David and Isabel's invitation to join them at the property Combabula, north of Yuleba, Queensland. Of course this property has great significance to our family, which is a whole different story, but this year it was spectacular on account of the water! Good rains over the last six months have the property looking spectacular: tall green grass; filled water holes; water birds; and wildflowers. Here are some photos from the trip. Thanks again Iris and Vince for letting us visit their property on the top of the Great Dividing Range in South Western Queensland.... read more

We left Mount Isa quite early on Monday morning heading south east, so we could make Longreach before dark. We traveled through Cloncurry, McKinlay (we stopped at the Crocodile Dundee Pub), Kyuna and then Winton. At Winton we looked around at some of the local attractions including a statue dedicated to Banjo Patterson who wrote Waltzing Matilda at a nearby station. We also saw the building where the first ever meeting took place for Qantas. I read that Qantas was conceived in Cloncurry, born in Winton and raised in Longreach. Just next door to the Qantas building is a wall that has been made by a man called Arno who is an eccentric, which was very interesting to look at. He has added all his junk to the fence and it has become one of the ... read more

Being so close to Australia, and probably not going to be this close again for a long time we decided it would be worthwhile taking the short up and down flight over the Tasman to see some friends we missed on our last trip here. First stop was to see the recently emigrated Joe Sheppard. The day to get there started very early, the flight was seamless and we picked up a cool little hire car at the other end. Becky (Joe's better half) entertained us for the first afternoon as Joe was working. The first thing we realised when we rocked up to there pad was how lush it was. They had a massive 2 bedroom apartment on the 20 something floor overlooking South Stradbroke Island from one balcony and Surfers Paradise from the other, ... read more
