Must start this by saying... Happy Birthday to the most wonderful lady in the world - Jacinta!!!! Hope it was full of love and happiness! Big birthday hugs and kisses from Ryan, Noah and I and the puppies. xoxo
The alarm went off at 5:30am today, yuck. We got packed up before the heat got some sting to it, so I guess it was worth it. Still we weren’t ready to leave until 7:30am, which means there is lots of time we can shave off, it’d be nice to take 30mins – hour to get on the road.
Today was the first road journey where I haven’t had this niggling guilt in the back of my mind reminding me that I should be studying while Ryan drives. Ah, the simple pleasures in life, no more study, assignments or exams until uni starts again in February.
We stopped at a couple of free camps not too far out of Miles, but they weren’t the kind of places that really inspired you to stop. I took a chance and suggested we try a place in the Camps book called Judd’s Lagoon. The book said there were toilets and mobile service
and pets are allowed. It’s always a risk heading off the highway and away from the little towns, because mobile service is sketchy and Ryan needs it to be able to work. Good decision, there’s mobile service and it is a beautiful spot.
The ‘toilet’ is a tin shed and neither of us has investigated it further, lets just say a silent thanks for having a toilet in the caravan… even if we didn’t, I’d rather go dig a hole than enter the toilet in the tin shed.
On arrival we turfed the dogs out of the car and figured we’d let them have a bit of a wander, because they don’t normally go all that far away and generally they come back when called… well Griffin does anyway. Not today, they were ages away and didn’t respond when called, so I took off after them. I was carrying this big stick (I was rather concerned about snakes) walking along little tracks through knee high grass calling out to the dogs and getting rather ‘pissed’ that they wouldn’t recall… turn around to see how far I was from the van and there were the little so-and-sos back at
Noah on time out :)
no really, he put himself in there... I promise. the campsite having a dip in the lagoon. Ryan had been watching my progress wondering what I was doing.
Noah was a whingey pain in the backside this afternoon, but that’s normal on the days we travel. He finally went down at 5:00pm for a sleep and I ducked out to wet a line before cooking dinner. There was a small hope that I’d catch a fish for dinner, but no such luck. Ryan thinks we need live bait rather than lures, I think I just need to learn how to cast further.
The lagoon area itself is really pretty. Ironbark trees around the camping area, so there is plenty of shade, the grass is mowed and it has that feel about it that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. There is a white duck living here and it is rather friendly and that is just the start of the wildlife. We watched wallabies drink at the lagoon at dusk and there are heaps of different birds in the area. Of course the required feral cat has been spotted. Seems they go hand in hand with the bush these days.
We’ll move on tomorrow.
