Geo: -26.6386, 152.961Started day with kangaroo sausages and toast, surprisingly ok! After picking Maddie up from school at midday and taking her friend home to Buderim up in the hills, we went to another popular beach resort called Mooloolaba. Lynya and I did a spot of clothes shopping on the beachfront whilst the men drank coffee. We then drove a short distance to Mooloolaba shopping mall. Lynya and I hit the clothes shops again, whilst the men split up to look at technology related stuff. We met up for coffee at a cafe next to the river that ran through the mall, then home to prepare dinner (roast lamb). We discovered that it's a small world during our conversation before eating. Throughout our stay Lynya has been organising for an ex-work colleague, by the name of ... read more

Geo: -26.6385, 152.96Woke to the sound of the apartment telephone. Thought maybe we'd overslept and that reception were giving us a wake up call, but no it was our friend Lynya making sure we were on track to arrive at her house later today! I think she's excited at the prospect of their first UK guests since their arrival in Oz a year ago! Grabbed brekkie at a nearby cafe and walked to Central train station for the 11.30am service to the Gold Coast for our two hour journey north to Nambour. Glen met us at the station; we went back to the house for a quick cuppa before picking Lynya up from work (Maroochydore shopping centre). Sat with a glass of wine watching the fruit bats flock into the trees and listening to the wildlife ... read more

An amazing, surprising, complex country! Scenery that gives you a look at every landform and landscape that provides constant spectacle. A road system, built to facilitate military movements during the Eisenhower days, that now carries Americans up and down, back and forward, constantly. An excellent road system that, in large part, could handle more maintenance. Wonderful national parks in the country where the idea began. Hog and cattle factories across the plains that make you feel guilty tucking into a typically tender US steak. A country where many people travel, lots of them in very large RVs and perhaps not too far from home. Iconic world cities that seem just a little disconnected from the surrounding lands. A great country to travel through with people who are welcoming, polite and surprisingly different, from each other and ... read more

Hi there, glad you could follow through. The blog was too big for one publishing so we have had to break it into two parts,, Read on,, After lunch we went toward Montville and Kondallila National Park. The Kondallila Falls are a bit of an effort to get to because of the steep walk down the paths, well maybe not to get to, but getting back up was going to test. The paths are well maintained and the many steps have handrails to assist the climber. Getting to the viewing spot was down a little from the pool and I thought that was enough for the girl today. What you climb down you have to climb back up. It was a warm afternoon and quite humid with the breeze muted by the forest. The pool at the ... read more

Blackall Range Waterfalls. From Nambour, it doesn’t matter which direction you travel, The Blackall Range tourist drive gives spectacular views from both sides of the vehicle. We went out to the Bruce highway to pick up the plumbing parts I needed and entered the tourist drive from the Landsborough turnoff to the south of Nambour. We basically travelled in a clockwise direction around the shorter drive. Landsborough was settled when gold was discovered in the area during the late 1800s. It was also a starting point for timber cutters in the 1880,s chasing Red Cedar, Blackbutt, and Turpentine logs. It is still considered one of Queensland’s historic townships. Through town the road begins to climb the Blackall Range. The Range sits to the north of the Glasshouse Mountains, first named by James Cook in 1770 as ... read more

An early start was needed and around 8.30 after a few fairwells then Joe dropped me off to Budget to pick up our hire car. the two hour drive north brought us to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo and a day of animal watching. here we had the chance to feed the Roos's and stroke Koala bears, so lots of photo oppotunities. We were all very impressed with the zoo, its cleanliness, size of enclosures and selection of animals. Our accomadation for the night is a motel about 40 mins drive north in Namour and is clean tidy and the food good. In the morning a short 90 min drive up to Tin Can Bay where we hope to see some wales.... read more

For those of you who are faithful blog readers you have probably been wondering where on earth we have got to. For the others, you are probably grateful that we have gone silent. The reason there has been no word from us is that we have been travelling a route that we travelled on our last trip and it would have been repeating myself. But a quick overview .... Like last time, we spent a couple of weeks in Gracemere, just outside Rockhampton where we enjoyed the company of John's family. He has two daughters, one son and two grandchildren living in the area and we spent some great times with them. The heat was unbearable and we found a wonderful escape from it at Emu Park, right on the beach. There is a shady park ... read more

Our next major destination was Cairns and we had decided that we should attempt to get there along smaller, less used roads rather on the main sealed roads we were so bored of travelling on! Dale had also been researching the area and there was a couple of interesting places we wanted to visit. However, after 3 days of bumpy roads and limited signposts we had found none of the attractions we had aimed for. Having said that we had experienced the deep outback and had really enjoyed driving off the road into a clearing to make fires, explore and spend the evenings swapping stories. We had been warned of the volume of dangerous wildlife found in the Queensland outback but had thus far found nothing. The only point to note was the huge amount of ... read more
