Today was a very interesting day. After another cold start, -4.4 degrees C according to the weather bureau, we set of on the final leg of our journey north. Once the sun came up, the day warmed up quickly. We were wearing short sleeves and had the air conditioner on not far into our journey. We got lost in Toowoomba following the directions from our GPS. Eventually we gave up on Simon (he's a bit on the simple side) and found our own way. All was progressing nicely until I heard a noise sounding like a bang followed by a tinkling sound. We were lucky that we were in a position that we could pull over safely and investigate. First Frank checked inside the van. All was well. An inspection underneath found disaster. Monday 25th July This morning was very cold and misty (-1), the photos show the mist over the dam. But as the day unfolded it was actually quite warm and just beautiful. We headed into Kingaroy, called into the Information Centre and checked out the interesting museum about the peanut industry in the area. We did not know how peanuts were grown so it was very informative. The peanuts grow very well in the soil from the volcano from the Bunya Ranges (the soil is very red where it has been ploughed). So then we had to visit the Peanut Van and do a taste test which meant we had to buy 3 different bags of peanuts (Yum). We had lunch at the local RSL club which was very nice but not as cheap as we ... read more

Saturday November 6th - happy birthday to young Ben in Melksham, Wiltshire who was 6 years old today. We hope you had a great birthday. We had considered straying further inland but felt that our first choice, Carnarvon Gorge, was just too far to fit in with our on-going plans. Also everything I had read about it mentioned that the caravan park in the gorge was quite a few kilometers along a gravel road. Graham felt that, unlike Pie, poor old Sweetie and gravel roads wouldn’t mix too well so we headed towards Kingaroy, a drive of 226 kms. There were only a couple of small towns on the way and we stopped in the village of Bell. It was named after Sir Joshua Peter Bell who at that time owned Jimbour Station that we had ... read more

After sending off my visa application for Brazil I finally thought that was the last big paperwork thing that I had to do before leaving. How wrong was I. I received my application back and thinking everyone else got their visa, why wouldn't I? Well 2 days later Maja informs me that our applications were rejected and we now have 6 working days to get our visa's and more importantly our passport back in a time frame that usually takes at least 7 working days... The good news is that it should be here Monday (tomorrow) and then I can fly out Monday night. Hooray Let the adventure begin! The Basic Itinerary is fly into Argentina, head to Chile. Get to Peru before New Years, see how well those resolutions hold up while trekking Machu Picchu. ... read more
