So we were up early for the drive to the Brisbane airport from Kingaroy....5am early, which was way to early for Me and Shoni. A quick stop for some brekky and it was off to the car parking place and then off to book in for our flights to Vanuatu. So we got there a bit early but hey, it's better to be early than late (no-one likes anyone who is late to get on the plane!!). Take off - in the sky and over a bit of sea and in not too much time at all we were there! We travelled this time with our good friends Brendan and Shoni and we are glad we did....it makes it more fun to share the experiences with and more interesting throughout the day (so we don't fight ... read more

The flight into Darwin on Wednesday was an early one and after the flight being an hour late to fly out of Ho Chi Minh and only being 15 mins late to arrive into Australia the day started off pretty good. We got the shuttle bus into the city and had some breakfast in this little cafe. Paul's dad Ian came and we went to find a rental car for a few days. We decided to go and look at the tunnels they used to store oil in during the war. They are very big and hot but worth a look. We drove around Darwin for the day and then took a look at the War Museum there. We went and fed some fish at Aquascene and it was awesome!! They are so fun to feed! ... read more

In our travels in Ho Chi Minh City and around we have come across some interesting sites and things to do that we have enjoyed and have encountered some memorable places and sights that we most certainly won't be forgetting in a hurry. Arriving into the airport is unlike anything you can imagine in Australia.....we really have no idea what is going on or where to go and you just pray you are following the right people and they are taking you to the right place. So on our adventures this is what we did:- We took a ½ day tour in the Old Quarter and went and seen the War Museum which was totally amazing and was so worth going to see, so much so that we only had an hour and a half and ... read more

Whoa......to start it off the bus ride was a long one. It took 2 and 1/2 hours to go 70kms and although there was lots to see the thing that most sticks in both our minds from the trip there is seeing someone possible die in a scooter collision on the highway. The driver wasn't wearing his helmet properly and his head hit the road and that was it. He didn't move after that! There was 2 other people involved as well and they were both ok on the side of the road. When someone dies or is injured they just pick them up and put them on the side of the road and everyone just gets on with their business. It was very sad and an eye opener as to how other countries deal with ... read more

What an experience this placed turned out to be!!! We had a great time eating and drinking here and we did lots of that!! The Louisana Brew House was great and drank there a few times while enjoying some food with our passionfruit beer. Yes passionfruit beer!! It is awesome.....the best beer we've ever had!! This place was on the beach and it was nice to sit there and look at the beach huts and the ocean. I got a mani and a pedi for $14 Aus with nail colour and nail designs on all fingers and toes. A bit of a bargain I thought! We got a moto from our hotel (Ha Van Hotel, a nice room for the money we paid and the service was really good!). We took our moto for a ride ... read more

A very sleepy town compared everywhere else we've been. We really didn’t do a lot of the touristy things in Hoi An, like going to the temples and sight-seeing places. We went to one museum and one temple just to say we have been to some in Hoi An…..but we are really not too interested in looking at them at the moment because we are a little over them to tell you the truth. We instead opted to go shopping.......And might I say Paul got more clothes made than I did, but I did get more shoes than he did! lol My first shoe experience was pretty good, they measured my feet and said some back tomorrow to try on. 2 pairs of perfect shoes first up!! Scored!! Ok so next it was onto clothes and ... read more

We seen some sights in Hoi An.....with all the water and all! We heard reports from our hotel in Hanoi that we shouldn't go because it was raining and it was flooded, but hey we don't mind a little water. Once we had got off our plane, boarded bus, found our hotel and checked in we needed a drink and a bite to eat so we walked down the street with all the locals and enjoyed a cold beer and a few cocktails. How were we going to see Hue in only one day? By car of course so Paul booked us a car to take us around to all the "sights" in Hue for $45 (no guide, just a driver). We thought that was pretty good otherwise we really won't get to see anything. He ... read more

Sapa is amazing! We caught the night train to Loa Cai and it’s not the best thing in the world but hey it gets you there. People can be so rude and don’t have any respect for others who are trying to sleep. The carriages sleep 4, bunk bed style and let’s just say we had one lady who would not keep still and kept getting up all the time…..very annoying when you can here every little thing that goes on. And some rude old men that kept talking really loud at about 2am!! People are trying to get a little sleep you know. So ok, now I’ve had my whinge I’m all good!! Lol After the train you catch a mini bus to the motel (once you’ve found the bus driver – it’s utter chaos ... read more

Halong Bay…..what can I say!! Absolutely beautiful. If you ever get the chance this is a must see destination on your itinerary, the photos do not do it justice and the beauty and serenity are endless. We departed our hotel at about 8.15am for the 3.5 hour journey (it’s only 180kms) and boarded our “junk boat” The Dragon Pearl #3 owned by Indochina Junk. Not a bad boat but a few improvements could happen. But would highly recommend it anyhow. Lunch was served once we had boarded the junk boat and it was certainly plentiful. Plenty of course and very tasty! We set sail and headed for the very secluded islands in Halong Bay, there are thousands of islands to look at and you spend all day just cruising and staring at their beauty. Once we ... read more

Today (Monday 11th October, 2011) we had a bit of sleep in which was nice and breakfast was provide at the hotel, which by the way is called Hanoi Elegance Hotel and is about $50 a night (breakfast is included). So for breakfast you can pretty much order whatever you like. I just stuck to an omelette and croissant with apple juice, while Paul opted for eggs and pancakes with very strong coffee. We then headed for the chaos and it didn't disappoint either! We decided we would do the walking tour in the Vietnam Lonely Planet Guide. We got lost, several time!! But it was all good and we eventually got back on track, if we didn't get lost we probably wouldn't have gone up some of the street did and we would have never ... read more
