Whoa......to start it off the bus ride was a long one. It took 2 and 1/2 hours to go 70kms and although there was lots to see the thing that most sticks in both our minds from the trip there is seeing someone possible die in a scooter collision on the highway. The driver wasn't wearing his helmet properly and his head hit the road and that was it. He didn't move after that! There was 2 other people involved as well and they were both ok on the side of the road. When someone dies or is injured they just pick them up and put them on the side of the road and everyone just gets on with their business. It was very sad and an eye opener as to how other countries deal with accidents. One bus trip we won't forget in a hurry!!
So once we arrived we had morning tea (fruit and honey tea) and I stuck my finger into a honey bee nest to taste the honey....it had an orange flavour and after eating some yummy fruit, we walked down to our boat so that we could take a boat trip down a canel in
this little wooden boat with our little lady driver (5 in total in this little boat I don't know how it stayed afloat!! LOL But it was excitting floating down in the current and there was a nice one flowing as the had been a lot of rain and the there was lots of flooding in the river. We went to a coconut candy making workshop to see how they break down the coconut and mix and make the candy.....it to delish!!! My new favourite lollie!! Our our guide then asked us who wanted to be a jungle man????? This man brings out this huge snake for us to hold and take pictures.....we both had a hold. We then headed to town on the bus and booked into our motel room, well....what can you expect when you don't pay much for the whole tour. A hard matress (and I mean hard and the shower didn't work and was cold so we used a bucket to have a wash in). We headed our for dinner and found the streets were all flooding......yep there was water coming up through the drains and the river was spilling over the banks. We walked up
and down the streets looking for somewhere to eat and found this little shop were Paul thought we would order the curry SNAKE. Well it was tastey and didn't taste like snake at all. We walked home through the the floaoed street and hit the sack.
The next morning we were up early because we were going to the floating markets. These markets aren't for tourist and are only for the locals so we were purely just going for a look. But before we could get to the boat that was taking us we had to take off our socks and shoes and opt for thongs or in my case borrowed thongs from the hotel! - yuk!! But with the street totally flooded now we had no choice but to walk through it. Excitting and scary at the same time....thank goodness we had our shots!!!!! The markets were amazing. So many people trading goods on boats it was awesome to see how they do their shopping. We stopped at this floating boat and they were selling pineapples so we bought one for 10 000 dong (50c) each. Yummo!!
We then we went up another canel and headed for
a rice noodle making workshop. This was really interesting and we took a bit of video for those who will get to see it. It's unreal how they make everything they eat and well.....it's just interesting. We vistited a tropical fruits garden (not so excitting for us becaue we have all these fruits in Australia) but some of the other people where fascinated!! There was a bamboo bridge there name "the money bridge" that we got to walk over and that was fun. There were all these fish in there and they were splashing and making our walk over the bridge that much more fun. Our tour guide then took us to a rice processing plant and we saw how they processed the rice. We then headed back for some lunch and we thought we would try some of the local dishes......I had snake that looked like snake!! It was a little one but it was still a snake! We then ordered a field rat....yes a rat....we ate rat!! lol And well it tasted pretty good. It was deep fried so it tasted like chiken but it was good. The bus ride back seemed to take forever ti was 3
and a bit hours back to the motel a very uneventful trip back. So sleep was calling and I caught a few (not many but a few) winks.
Then it was dinner and onto our next adventure!
