The flight into Darwin on Wednesday was an early one and after the flight being an hour late to fly out of Ho Chi Minh and only being 15 mins late to arrive into Australia the day started off pretty good. We got the shuttle bus into the city and had some breakfast in this little cafe. Paul's dad Ian came and we went to find a rental car for a few days. We decided to go and look at the tunnels they used to store oil in during the war. They are very big and hot but worth a look. We drove around Darwin for the day and then took a look at the War Museum there. We went and fed some fish at Aquascene and it was awesome!! They are so fun to feed! We loved it!! Another great history lesson for everyone and if you are in Darwin you should definately go and see this place. We had lunch at the Yachet club and I had a buffalo burger!! It was really good and we enjoyed a drink there while catching up and enjoying the scenery. We made a trip to the Fannie Bay Goal and this place
is as errie as the any old goal but was great to go and see also. History certainly has been a big part of our holiday this year but it has been really good. Next was a trip to the wharf for a look and then we Paul and I dropped Ian off and we booked into our hotel (same one as Ian), did some washing and cleaned up before headed out to find somewhere to eat. We found this resturant that had an all you can eat seafood buffet for $38.....BARGAIN!!!!!! So quite a few prawns, mussels and other seafood were consumed by us too!
The next day we (Paul, Me and Ian) took the rental car for a day trip out to Litchfield and visited all the attractions along the way. Lots of beautiful waterfalls and bushland and termite towers we visited and lots of photos. We went for a swim at this beautiful waterfall and I swam up to the actual fall and it waws a bit errie swimming out because the one minute you are standing up and see the bottom of the lake as crystal clear and the next you are swimming in 13
metres of water that is pitch black. We went and looked at the termite towers that are tall and skinny and face north-south. We made our way back to town and we got all dressed up and went back to our seafood buffet, this time Ian came along as well. Man can that man eat oyster!! lol And their chocolate cake is to die for. Another late night for us.
Friday we decided we would go and and see the jumping crocs out at Adelaide River for the 11am cruise. We saw to jumping crocs....they were awesome! And we saw a big croc (that I spotted) that is one of the really big ones in that part of the river but it never comes to the boat. Once back on dry land we had lunch at the oppositions park (whoops!!) and then we headed back to town. We went to Crocasaurus Cove and seen so many HUGE crocs. Bert the croc is a famous croc that has been in Croc Dundee!!! He is huge!! The whole place was great and we got to feed some turtles, hold a snake and a little croc and see so many reptiles. It
was an awesome time. We went back to the wharf for a few brews and some dinner. On the menu was fish and chips (Paul) and Ian and I had the tasting plate - croc, buffalo, camel and kangaroo. It was really good and to top it off......ice cream!!!! We took Ian back to where he was staying, said our goodbyes and headed back to the motel to pack up all our stuff (and with no room to spare!)
We had an early flight so it was up at 4am to get all the stuff in the car, wash the car (we weren't meant to take it on dirt road but we kind of did....whoops!) and take the car back to the rental place at the airport. We were finally on our way back to Kingaroy after 4 weeks off and to get back home was great, except the washing and ironing and the house cleaning. But we have had an awesome time way and can't wait for our next adventure!!
