Boarding the Voyager was a breeze and we were soon whisked to our cabin. Our luggage was there waiting for us even the supplies that were shipped from Seattle by Cruise Specialists. After some quick unpacking and attending the emergency drill, it was time to hightail it to the aft deck for our sail out of the beautiful Sydney Harbor. We pulled away from the pier right at sunset on a sultry evening and sailed under the Sydney Bridge, past the Opera House and out the Sydney Heads into the Tasman Sea. It couldn’t have been better timing for a departure and a great way to start this Grand Voyage. The next night Captain Sanguineti welcomed us guests and introduced his staff. Most of the passengers were dressed up in tuxes and evening gowns and we ... read more

I stepped out of the Brisbane airport taking my first step on Australian soil. As I went to get on the bus the door seemed to be on the wrong side of the automobile. It was then I remembered how in Australia you drive on the other side of the street, a phenomenon I a never witnessed first hand before. On the drive to Moreton Bay I couldnt help but notice all the store along the way that we have back in the states. I almost felt as if I was in Florida and not Australia. Once we arrived on the island after the eo minute ferry ride we went start to the Moreton Bay research station, the palce were we would all be living for the next five days. THe rooms were extremely small, four ... read more

Wow, wow, wow. All I can say is wow.. This morning we boarded a ctamaran called Eye Spy and it took us out past Moreton Bay to see if we could spot some whales. The captain spotted some a fair distance away and stopped the boat - there are only two whale watching boats allowed out from Brisbane and they have to stop well away from the Whales. We waited. And slowly, the magnificent creatures come closer, closer. They disappear from view - and suddenly there they are right next to the boat, blowing water upwards at first, then coming up and diving down - they are curious. The pod of three whales wants to interact with us - they want to say hello!! They dive under the boat and come up at the other side ... read more

After a pretty busy week getting the car and camper trailer ready for the trip, we are almost ready to head off. The camper trailer is packed, with just the last minute items to go in the car in the morning. We hope to head out early in the morning on our way up through Toowoomba then on to Moonie with our destination for the first night St George. We are meeting our travelling companions in St George and looking forward to a great first night catching up with them. ... read more

We are busy preparing for our Western Queensland adventure. Car at the mechanics today for the final check up - ouch - just got the call from the Mechanic with the list of things needing to be done before we head off. Better off learning about it now than on the side of the road somewhere. Trailer also going in to have a couple of improvements added before we head off next weekend. Getting excited now and really looking forward to our trip.... read more

Just as the title says....... Have had a quiet week here in Brisse. Ross, Stef and Jen left last weekend to head up the coast while I stayed behind mainly to save my funds for Cairns where I wanna go scuba diving :) So I've been kicking it back with Mik, watching his fav NRL team, the Broncos and learning the skills of the Wii. Took a trip to the local pub, The Brooke and I got lost in another Ozzie Mall (seriously, these places are mazes). Oh and I've sampled the much-loved Brissie pie, thumbs up. In return I found us some Irn-bru, unfortunately the boys are undecided, they don't seem to have the same passion, even when I informed them it was made from girders! Have also been treating Mik to some proper home-made ... read more

The Sunday before I left Marcello’s in Brisbane we took a drive to Scarborough up the coast. This little town perched on at the top of Morton Bay, is one of grand swanky houses, many of them with their own large boat moored at the end of their private jetty. The town is famous for its seafood from Morgans Seafood, fresh to take home or cooked from the take away. The range of fish was amazing, much of it caught by the fishing boats tied up directly behind the place. We opted for the take away and had squid and local fish (with chips of course). I think it may have been the best tasting fish and chips I’ve had. Delicious and worthy of this little blog of its own ... read more

From Airlie Beach we took a two hour flight down to Brisbane. We hadn't planned to come to Brisbane originally, but our friends Karen and Dave (who we met in Australia and who subsequently lived in London) were planning to be on Moreton Island at this time, which is just off the coast of Brisbane. Moreton Island is similar to the more famous (and touristy) Fraser Island. The main difference is that Moreton is quite a bit smaller being 38km from north to south. Due to it's less touristy nature, it's a favourite holiday retreat for Australians. There are no paved roads on the island so a 4x4 is needed to get around. When we boarded the ferry we started to see what an Australian camping holiday is like. In the UK most people head off ... read more
