July 17 A local guide takes us back the the rockhole water site and we get to see some Aboriginal rock drawings as well. We also get to go to the culteral center and do our own Aboriginal dot style paintings. What fun and some of the local artist are in the studio as well. I just happen to find a painting that I really like and the painter is in the shop, her name is Angela too and I find this an omen to buy her painting. I also like the idea the 90% of the money goes directly to her not to others. She argees to have a picture taken with me and the painting. We started bright and early. A little earlier than I would have liked several of the girls in our shared 8 person room decided to get up before 6 when we didn’t even need to be ready until 7:30. I had some clementines and a museli yogurt bar that Lindsay shared with me for breakfast. I also had my first hot cross bun, ever, shared to me by Cam (one of our leaders). Our fourth day began with a helicopter ride over Glen Helen Gorge. We had tried to get the ride in at sunset the night before, but the helicopter had been overbooked. Debora stepped in and got us a 7am ride before departing this morning. We only paid for a 6 minute ride, but I know we got close to 10… and it seemed to last forever. We saw some beautiful sights - the rocks along the gorge were carved by erosion in such a way to form tall walls of rocks - the “organ pipes.” We also saw several wild horses grazing in the valleys below. Our next stop was at Ormiston Gorge - another pretty walk through red rocks - all carved over time by the meandering creek below. We saw several black-footed wallabies jumping ... read more
