We wake to a text from our friends Peter and Teresa telling us that they've been watching a news report saying that we, yes, Issy and me, have brought COVID to Darwin. We're not quite sure why squads of heavily armed guards haven't broken down our door yet. Issy rings Teresa in a panic. It seems that Peter saw something on the TV about COVID fragments in the local wastewater and thought it might be amusing to give us a scare. If we weren't properly awake before we certainly are now. I start planning an appropriate level of revenge. Letting down the tyres on his van wouldn't seem to be even close to cutting it.... We head off to the Darwin Military Museum out at East Point. There's a heavy emphasis here on the World War ... read more

We wake up in a cold sweat and check the local COVID exposure site list yet again. We also found ourselves checking it nervously about every ten minutes as we sat in front of the TV last night. We're supposed to be flying out to Darwin this morning, but if we've been to any of the listed sites while they were active that'll quickly get swapped for the not quite so attractive alternative of being imprisoned at home in the dark and cold of mid-winter Melbourne for the next two weeks; or longer. All was looking good here in Victoria until a few days ago when cases suddenly started appearing again, and then climbing steadily. The first case was imported by some rogue furniture removalists from COVID-ravaged Sydney. They apparently thought it would be a good ... read more

Well it was mothers day today and though I wasn't with any of the kids, I had a lovely day and received lots of very lovely phone calls, facetime calls and messages. Very nice! Miss everyone so it's wonderful to have such beautiful calls etc! We started the day with a nice breaky by the pool at the bistro here. Such a beautiful setting! After breaky we moved the Bago! We had chatted to the reception here about our location, we were out in the open a fair bit and there were shadier spots, especially with the pretty intense afternoon sun. We got the go ahead and Rob kindly set about moving us. It all went pretty well, aside for a minor 'incident', lets say '#OMGtheawningstilldown!' But all's well that ends well and this site is ... read more

We were woken rather rudely at 6.30am by the PA system at the prison next door and just as we’d dropped off again a siren sounded at 7am. Overall, it had been a disturbed night as the military had taken off several times and flown noisily overhead. We rang the doctor and made an appointment for me for 1.15pm so we had a lazy morning around the van, with the air conditioner on as it was already getting hot. More planes flew over, including the latest US fighters, which Barry raced outside to watch fly over. It must be a really large operation! And with other countries involved. We also saw a group of Bar Shouldered Doves feeding right next to the van. We then made our way to the Casuarina Shopping Complex, which was very ... read more

Thursday, 24th July 2014 I wasn't expecting too much out of this visit to the Northern Territory but it turned out to be a relatively good experience. There were some sights that I was really keen to explore and it helped that H was very accommodating throughout this trip. As the days went by, I managed to check off those places from my wish list one by one. As soon as we cleared off the Australian Customs, we hailed a blue taxi which would bring us to the url=http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g255066-d498785-r218190569-Mediterranean_All_Suite_Hotel-Darwin_Top_End_Northern_Territor.htmlMediterranean All Suite Hotel located within the mini CBD District. The time was 7.34am as we entered the near-empty Stuart Highway. About 15 minutes into the journey, we had arrived at our accommodation where we were warmly greeted by one of the nice ladies at th... read more

Hey ! Ces petites bestioles pleines ... read more

Today we changed campsites to Hidden Valley. When we got there we set up the tent and got a couple of things ready, went to some camping shops, the water front and the city. Then we came back, we came to meet the gas fitter who was fitting the gas pipe on our trailer, then we found out the camper trailer was invaded by ants so then we moved pitch and cleared all the ants up. We couldn't be bothered to cook dinner so went to the cafe. I had wedges and a can of sunkist. Then we went back to the tent and went to bed, the tent is white as Mum but talcum powder everywhere to keep the ants out. In the morning we had to go to a random place called UES to ... read more

We spent most of this morning in our hostel sorting out blogs and doing our washing. Around lunchtime we walked down to the other end of the town to go to the tourist info centre. We were planning a crocodile jumping cruise and a fishing trip for the next 2 days and we managed to get them both sorted with a little help from the locals at the tourist information centre. Next we called into Coles on our way back from to the hostel and bought some basic backpacker rations which meant we had cereal for lunch! And we then caught the bus down towards Mindil Beach to take a look at the Museum which had been recommended by our tour guide Nick. The museum had an exhibition in Cyclone Tracy which pretty much wiped out ... read more
