So sorry it has been a while since I updated our blog, but life became rather hectic, as you all know, after Olivia's arrival on 13 February. I wont scare you with all the details, but the birth was (apart from painful of course) the most amazing experience ever. Now our little munchkin is already three weeks old and growing fast. Here are some pics of her over the past few weeks. She's been a real pleasure - very calm baby - she sleeps really well. We're very lucky. I've also included a photo of Mike on his boat - taken from our balcony ... as well as a much larger boats (sorry Mike) - the QEII and the Queen Victoria. The QEII was leaving Australia for the last time to retire in Dubai as a ... read more

Well, we arrived in Sydney on the night of the 16th of February and were greeted by our first Australian friend, Bob Potter. Bob was nice enough to offer to put us up in his place in Rhodes while we searched for a place of our own and was extremely helpful in explaining how to order coffee (long black or flat white), how to drive on the wrong side of the road, which direction to look first when crossing the road, whether to watch Rugby League or Rugby Union, whether to refer to someone as a bloke, mate, or an ocker, and most importantly... how to play the game of cricket (of which we are now experts...and for which Matt has suspended his job search in hopes of becoming the next great cricketeer). After spending the ... read more

Hello again everyone. I'm sitting here with my Dad, showing him how to use a travel blog (really easy, so no excuse - you could all start one to share your photos with us! - www.travelblog.org).... so, here are a few pics from our sight-seeing the last couple of days. My Dad arrived on Wednesday night, and so far we've had a nice braai (can't call it a BBQ, it's against my SA 'culture'!) with my cousin's family; we've also had a braai at home; we've explored Darling Harbour in Sydney and also taken a full bus tour of Sydney's top attractions; got some exercise doing a 4km walk to, and around, Cremorne Point Nature Reserve (which is across Cremorne Bay from our flat); and taken a ferry trip to Manly to snorkel at Shelley Beach. ... read more

G’day Mates Well, the last few days have passed in a social whirlwind as we have been staying in the posh playground of Neutral Bay on the north shore of Sydney with Lesley and James, friends from uni. When we arrived we were told that our busy schedule for the weekend would be experiencing the party side of Sydney and they weren’t wrong! Its been non-stop, but fab. We first arrived on Thursday after a few hours shopping at Parramatta shopping centre back over near Seven Hills and the Deane-Oz’s. Once again we headed to the cheapo part of the centre and found “Cotton On” my fave shop in Oz. They seem to have a permanent sale on with lots of bargains, and Sa, I think its better than C&A!! A few purchases later and we ... read more

We had a super housewarming party on Saturday. A mix of people we have met through Mike's work, through my bridesmaid Belinda, generally out and about, or through my old skating mate Grace, and my newly-found :-) Sydney-based step-cousin and family, popped in for drinks and snacks. We had a super time and eventually ended off the evening at 2am! We made some yummy coconut prawns, fillet steak and boerewors with good 'ol Mrs Balls chutney (courtesy of the SA shop) to go around, as well as the usual snacks and dips to keep tummies full. Thanks for the pastry whirls recipe Mum, they went down a treat. Unfortunately missing from the pics are Anita (who I met through Belinda) and Nick and Sandra (a lovely British/Irish couple we met recently through Grace). We missed our ... read more
