I wish I could report that the weather has been amazing and we both have the most fantastic tans....alas this has not been the case!! The weather has been about 2 degrees warmer over here compared to the UK! The last few days have been pretty warm and the word on the street is that the summer is going to be a scorcher (Over 40 degrees!!!) After attempting to go whale watching twice only for the trip to be cancelled as a result of bad weather it was a case of third time lucky! I use the term 'lucky' very loosely as the swell was pretty large and we were in a tiny boat with a reckless ozzie behind the wheel who seemed intent on putting us all in traction by crashing down over waves with ... read more

A weekend of birthday celebrations has come to an end and while I thought I might get a little depressed this weekend as its my moms birthday too and I feel very far away from home, my lovely housemates and friends made sure I had a birthday to remember!! It started on the Friday with a visit to the Art Gallery of New South Wales to see a Monet exhibition - yes I am getting very cultured in my old age, followed by lunch at Potts Point, some shopping and home for a girlie night with Lise consisting of Pizza, a chick flick and of course wine..........and chocolate!! Unfortunately the slave drivers at the Orangepeel Cafe made me work my birthday but after opening my lovely cards and presents and Skyping my mum off I went. ... read more

I had next to no sleep on the flight from KL to Sydney despite trying to induce sleep with a couple of wines. So I was knackered as land came into view but it didn't stop my excitement. It suddenly hit me that I was back in Australia and I remembered, looking out the window at sun rising over the mountins how much I LOVE OZ!!!! One thing that struck me (not in a good way) was how bloody cold it was as I came out the airport. Hmm perhaps my bag full of bikinis and summer dresses, shorts etc wasn't going to be that useful to me afterall!! I am staying in Glebe- a western suburb within walking distance to the CBD via Darling Harbour so I was quite pleased with my choice of hostel. ... read more

Sarah's leaving Sydney on Monday so a few of us went out in Glebe last night for her leaving do. I finish work at 7.30pm, on a Friday, so Sarah booked a table at a tapas bar in Glebe for 8.15pm. Sarah planned to go out with some of her work mates when she finished work and then meet me at 8pm, at our place, so I hurried home to find that she wasn't here, when I called her she said she was running late (nothing unusual there) and was drunk already! By the time she got home and had got ready to go out again it was getting late and it was chucking it down with rain and there was lots of scary thunder and lightning. We waited and hoped the rain would die down ... read more

Hey everybody, hows it going? Its unbelievable but im already over 3 months into my oz adventure, feels like 2 minutes, but this is probably going to be my last blog from Sydney. Things have been a lot more civilised since my last entry, after Christmas and my bd. Reality kicked in and I almost shat when I realised how much money I had spent so the job hunt began. Whoever said its easy to get a job in oz was talking out of their arse cos its not, especially if your only wanting to work for a couple of months. After a weeks worth of half arsed looking I decided I would really knuckle down and seriously look for something (and tell a couple of porky pies on my CV). I handed in my cv ... read more

Toronga zoo - but first... Well I have been in Sydney now for 17 days and surprise surprise, am loving it! One of the best ways to see Sydney is to get a weekly travel ticket, which allows you to take all buses and ferries for minimum $32. The bigger the area, the more the ticket is. The passenger ferry takes you all around the harbour and is an excellent and cheap way to see it and avoids costly harbour cruises. My international student card is not so accepted in this state though annoyingly, as I have to be a NSW student to benefit, which I think is very unfair! Despite that, Ive been to several museums and art galleries, round the Rocks area, where I bought my first present since being away...it was a CD ... read more

Feb 17 Woke up early the next morning, made myself some breakfast in the hostel kitchen and spoke to my mom and dad on Skype for a bit. Skype is so great, especially as my laptop and my dad's both have web-cams, so we can see each other when we speak- it feels a lot more like visiting than a simple phone-call. After that I received a phone call from a man named Marvin Weinman, who was a friend of my Uncle Steven's, who lived in Sydney. Originally from Montreal, he had met my uncle a few years ago when visiting mutual friends in Stowe, and they had quickly become very fond of each other. Marvin so generously invited me to stay with him and his wife Linda for my week in Sydney, and we arranged ... read more

First, a few facts - I can nearly get all my hair into a ponytail; I'm hungover; I'm a parade official for the Mardi Gras parade on the 2nd March 2008, so look out for me!; I hate vodaphone, they are crap; my MP3 player broke on me again, but is now working after "rebuilding" itself, unnervingly; I sunbathed for the fist time since I left the UK today; I will have a surprise for you all as of next week..with a picture as proof (you'll never guess!). Secondly, I received an email from Steve, the zookeeper who I got chatting to at Adelaide Zoo (cf previous blog). How random, but how lovely! he was searching for tiger pics and came up with my blog, of all things! (it makes me wonder what other searches are ... read more
