Bye Bye Byron... Hello Surfers!

Woke up after a awful night's sleep - Daniela was sharing a double bed with me and definitely wanted to kill me I was moving around so much! Took the bus from Byron Bay up to Surfers Paradise. The bus trip took about an hour and a half, and we are now in the state Queensland, which is also a different time-zone, even though we're no further east. The name of Surfers Paradise is kind of deceiving. This place is incredibly commercial, with tons of high-rise buildings, tourist traps everywhere, tons of fast food and everything. Oh those Byron nights...

I woke up really early because I had fallen asleep so early the night before, and got showered and packed up. Once I was ready the girls were just waking up, so I went to the reception of our hotel where there was free wireless. Caught up on some e-mails and did a little research for what's coming up on our trip, and then we checked-out and took a taxi into town. Today was a really funny day- we visited the Happy Hippie town of Nimbin. We were supposed to be picked up for our day trip there at 10:20, at about 10:55 a rainbow painted mini-bus rolled into our driveway. We jumped aboard and met Ivan, our South African tour guide who clearly was living on Nimbin time. We drove the about hour to Nimbin, and on the way he played lots of good music, and told us a bit of the history of Nimbin. A cheeky day and night...

Had another big sleep-in! Then we sat around my laptop at the restaurant here using the free wireless to figure out our Greyhound busses for the next while, and booking some accommodation. The girls then took a walk on the beach while I uploaded some more blogs, then took the bus into town. I have been having some weird hip pain since taking my tumble in the Blue Mountains so I had a massage at a really really hippie-ish place called the Byron Bay Healing Wheel. A chill day by the bay...

Had a big sleep in, then walked down to the beach, right by our resort. We just sat on the bit of dry sand and lay out for a while, with some occasional fearful nudist sightings. Took a bit of a swim and then came back into the resort when it started to rain. Had a really quiet chill day, and made some pasta and garlic bread for dinner. Had a painfully early morning this day so we could catch an eight o'clock coach to catch. Had a bit of a sleep, a lunch break, and then arrived in Byron Bay at about 1pm. We caught a taxi to our resort, which is called Byron Bay Beach Resort. For our purposes it is perfect- we are in our own cabin which actually looks a lot like a camp cabin from the outside. Had a good sleep in, and then packed up our bags for a day at the beach. We had lunch at the Hog's Breath Bar where we got a twenty-five percent discount because we were staying at Aussitel. It really is a great hostel - a perfect balance of fun things to do and great people to chill with, but still perfectly clean - at least the bathroom and room was, we didn't use the kitchen. Today we had a not too early start, to catch our Greyhound to Coff's Harbour at 9:30. We spent the day on the coach, but it wasn't too painful- I finished the book I was reading then wrote a bunch of these journal entries till my laptop's battery died, then just listened to my iPod. Including a couple meal breaks the journey took about seven and a half hours. Woke up really early to get our Greyhound bus to Newcastle. Got there around 10, hung out in our hotel's lounge for about an hour then checked into our room. Another YHA, another clean nice room. It was just the four of us in the room again, which was nice. We walked the 100 meters to the gorgeous, wide and very uncrowded beach.
