Day 331 - Orange Today was the start of the normal working week for Jane and she headed off before even the dawn light had brought in the new day. We woke to the sounds of the front door shutting and the cruiser reversing down the drive, darn, now we needed to wee! Not usually a drama but camped on somebody’s driveway we felt it a little impolite to do much more than ‘water the lemon tree’ so imagine our horror when we find the front door well and truly locked. A quick run around the back proved we were definitely shut out with that locked aswell! Shivers! There was nothing else for it but to jump in the car and head for the nearest public conveniences …. but they too were locked. Argggghhhh! We finally ... read more

Day 330 - Orange This morning started with a strange sensation, one that I haven’t experienced for the past eleven months …… this morning I got the pangs of being homesick. That doesn’t mean to say that we haven’t previously missed home, family or friends - we have - but we were both enjoying ourselves so much and relishing the change in environment that you just bounce along. This morning however the spring was momentarily missing, from my bounce at least. I know what will put it right, a walk! Jane and Tony shared one of their morning walks with us and we found ourselves strutting off towards Cook Park taking in the Duntry League Golf Club along the way. It’s peaceful in the city this morning and we don’t meet many people out and about. ... read more

Day 329 - Orange During our time in the Cradle Mountain national park in Tasmania, two separate people recommended the Kanangra-Boyd national park here in New South Wales as an excellent days adventure walking. Today we’re going to check it out for ourselves and with the alarm set for 6am we’re making sure we allow the maximum amount of time possible to ensure success! We joked that any additional sleep could be caught up on the hour and three quarter journey getting there but out of respect for Tony we all just about managed to stay away while he was at the wheel of the cruiser. The final 27kms of the trip are via gravel road. There’s a smart looking national park campground here too and the road is in excellent condition, even good enough to ... read more

Day 328 - Orange Ding-a-ling-a-ling! Walkies! With all this extra activity going on you’d think we’d be starting to feel really fit, but we’re not! This morning’s walking adventure was out to Federal Falls, a walk that Tony & Jane have done many times before but are keen to do again with us so we get to see the sights. It’s definitely a ‘boots’ day today so we figure the terrain will be rocky underfoot and as with most waterfalls will involve a steep climb somewhere along the way! We head out to Mount Canobolas with Tony at the wheel of the cruiser and are soon parking up ready to get going. The initial walk out to the falls is very straight forward and although there’s not much more than a trickle coming over the top ... read more

Day 327 - Orange I’m not sure what possessed me to set the alarm clock for 6am, especially when we knew we weren’t setting off on the walk until 8am. But anyway, at least it meant we were first in the queue for the shower block! Ha Ha! Oh and don’t act all surprised that we’ve got walks organised already, remember who we’re with! We didn’t want to disturb Tony & Jane too early so Darryl kept an eye out for any lights going on in the house. Turned out that Jane didn’t want to disturb us by putting the lights on so there was a bit of a stale mate for a while but eventually we were all enjoying breakfast in the dining room. We did a series of walks this morning, the first of ... read more

Day 326 - Canberra to Orange Our time in Canberra and in the company of Kangaroojack, Caroline & Andy, has sadly come to an end. It’s been great to catch up with them again and we hope our paths will cross in the not too distant future, maybe in Australia, maybe in the UK - who knows! Thanks for sharing your pitch with us guys, it worked out just perfectly and the company as ever has been good fun with plenty of chatter and not a dull moment in sight! As they trundle off to work, we took our time packing up before eventually clearing off. There was no rush and a bit more time was spent catching up on the blogs and tidying up the caravan. Physically getting the caravan off the pitch turned out ... read more

Day 1. We did not get away until today lunch time, arriving at Orange in the dark to find it cold and wet so we decided book a room in a motel. What a week until now, lots of late night trying to get the truck ready so a night in a good bed was welcomed. Tomorrow we are heading for Bourke.... read more

This weekend just gone, we went for a weekend escape to Orange in central New South Wales. We had a great trip up there going via Bathurst and doing a lap of the Mount Panorama race track. We booked one nights stay at the Ambassador Inn which is part of the Quality Inn chain. What a mistake!! This would have to count as the worst single night accommodation I have ever suffered. The owner/manager was rude and abrupt. He gave the attitude that he was doing us a favour just by letting us stay there. There was NO customer service, no attempt to empathise with guests. I needed some extra pillows to sleep due to a medical condition. When I asked reception for these as there was only one single pillow in the room, and the ... read more

Just did the shops today and found some bargains at the Myer sale. We are surprised at the size of the town centre for a population of just 39,000. All the usual mall shops plus local speciality shops. Continues hot during the day but cooler at night. No photos today.... read more
