Well we survived the night without being squished by a eucalypt and the wind had dropped. It was still dull, though, so we decided to pack up and move on to Eden, our next port of call. We never did see the goanna, unfortunately. Maybe we’ll find another along the way. Barry had looked up the caravan parks in the area on WikiCamps (which a lady in one of the caravans at Genoa had recommended to us and is great!) and chosen Sapphire Sun-Eco Holiday Village, about 5km outside Eden. It was the cheapest and looked nice on the photos. It was nice. The new owners were very friendly and put themselves out to help us choose the best site available for the big van. The best site, No 19, was already booked as there would ... read more

Have you ever wondered what the Garden of Eden looked like? According to the sign on the holiday park we have used we are right there. As RV parks go it is excellent, both in appearance and cleanliness. We are parked under some kind of fig tree. Tried out a couple of leaves but they were the wrong colour. (and size) We have heard of Eden for many years as a refuge for damaged yachts in the Sydney Hobart yacht race. We knew little else of this southern corner of NSW. As we had another sunny day, getting washing and servicing done on the motorhome was first priority, followed by a visit to the whaling museum. Some ask 'what kinds of things need servicing and doing each week?" There are many, inside and outside the vehicle. ... read more

It was a very brisk start to the day so we decided to roll out of Genoa early. Before long we had crossed the border back into NSW. We missed a section of coast when we went inland to Canberra and into Victoria through Kosciuszko National Park so we decided to loop around and see what we missed. We arrived in Eden situated on the elegant Twofold Bay and were lucky enough to see whales at the lookout. The town wharf proved to be a great spot for coffee and as we strolled along the docks a seal surfaced alongside a few fishing boats......it was probably hoping for a free lunch. After walking around town we found a nice caravan park by the sea and set up shop for the day.... read more

After leaving Sydney we headed south down the coast towards Eden where we could hopefully see some more whales. We opted to take the scenic coastal road through the national park and it was a good choice, the road impressively weaved its way back and forth through the bush to reveal stunning sea views. Along the route there were loads of good places to stop and do a bit of whale spotting and at one point the road even protruded out over the pacific in what was an impressive piece of engineering. We drove through some lovely seaside towns and villages along the way; funnily enough Scarborough being a stand out favourite with its lovely beach and a grand looking hotel until we eventually made our way to the seaside town of Kiama. To finish the ... read more

Today we crossed the border into New South Wales – although we’re not sure when as there was no sign to tell us! Having arrived in Eden, we took a cruise around the town and to the wharf where Dean went fishing. There is no doubt in my mind that he is addicted to fishing as, the following morning, I woke up early to the sound of the engine starting. Dean had decided to drive down to the beach at the crack of dawn to do more fishing! We had spent the night parked in a pub car park and luckily nobody came knocking on the van. Though we have already prepared our excuse for that event: Dean has drunk too much to drive and I don’t have a driving license!:-) Its name well justified, Eden ... read more

After our little stop off in Orbost, we headed out of Victoria and into NSW on the 25/02/2011. There wasn't a great deal to see between Orbost and Eden, very sleepy little country towns, blips on the map! We got to Eden and headed straight for the information booth, then sat outside the info booth on a table and chairs and made ourselves salad sandwhiches (it's a tough life this travelling!) We made our way to the "Fountain Caravan Park", so called because of the huge fountain out the front lol. Drove in, picked a site and began to set up the van. Parked near us were a french couple travelling with their third wheel french mate with all their stuff sprawled all over their site and no van. We had a bit of a chat ... read more

15 November 2010 We spent the day at Eden and went to the Whale Museum and learnt more about Old Tom who we had both heard about. The story of Old Tom is an interesting one and it was great to see all the paraphernalia directly associated with the time he was around. Eden is a beautiful place and definitely want to revisit in the future.. ... read more

We've been here on the South Coast for a month already. How did that happen? We timed our arrival to help Maya celebrate her first birthday in the middle of July. The following day we set up our stall at Merimbula Seaside Market with frost on the ground! At the beach! Our best ever single sale was 11 ironing board covers to one customer (manager of holiday apartments). The number of prospective customers for the market was swelled by the presence of a whale in the bay. Awesome. A month later, same market, same place - even better whale sightings. There were about 5 whales, including calves frollicking about in the bay for hours. One was so periously close in-shore that Peter was worried it might get stranded. The board riders could have reached out and ... read more

With Mel and Gareth out of the country, someone has to keep up appearances! I tried to vote for them, but wasn't allowed to. I promised I would not cast a Donkey vote! I'm famous too. Someone recognised me and asked what I was doing there!... read more

I made it! I made it to the letterbox! It took me a long time and I had to detour to the lemon tree, but I did it! I'll just spend a couple of days here resting and checking out the local sights, and then I'll set off again to destinations unknown (at this stage!).... read more
