Oh, how I love the northern states in the summer. When it is 85 degrees it feels fine. When it is 55 degrees, it still feels fine. Not so in Florida. The air up here is dry and refreshing, and it is a pleasant respite from the humidity back home. So, when we got up this morning and it was only 48 degrees, we still put on our shorts, knowing that in an hour or so, it would be comfortably in the 60’s. And it was. It actually made it to the 80’s before the day was done. We left the hotel at 8:10 AM and 54 degrees and headed west on I-90. It was my opinion that we needed a bit of a rest from the winding mountain roads. The past few days have had ... read more

Leaving Portland late on a Saturday night set us up to catch an early tide from Olympia to Pt Townsend in one day. The first leg of our trip is spent unpacking and stowing all the food and supplies and Peter plans for the week of maintenance coming up. Unfortunately, like many boaters now dealing with unusually warm, our propeller & rudder made for an inviting base for barnacles that slowed us down considerably so we hung on the hook in Pt Ludlow's inner harbor next to the "Twins" a pair of natural, uninhabited islands (by humans that is). At least the calm weather and clear skies gave us a joyful start for our 2019 IPDP Summer Cruise with a light breeze behind us hopefully foretelling an easy, safe journey ahead. The first week of our ... read more

Yesterday was our last day at whidbey. We took a short trip to Deception State Park to do some hiking. It’s a great park with several trails winding along the coast. Great views. Pictures speak for them selves. Whidbey Naval Air Station was a joy to visit. The RV Park was one of the best we have ever used. Right on the water and very clean and well kept. It was an experience being around this part of the Navy again. Whidbey now has several P3 squadron and a few new P8 squadrons. It also has some EP3’s and the new F/A 18 Growler. We flew in here a lot back in the 60’s and 70’s to pick up torpedoes and do practice mining runs. At that time it was a small outpost and was the ... read more

Hi All. Yesterday we ventured to the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park. It took another ferry from Couteville to Port Townsend and then 135 mile drive to the Hoh visitor center. It took about 3 1/2 hours for the drive each way. Driving is very slow in this part of Washington with the two lane roads and lots of road construction. We did have two hours of hiking around in the area before heading back to the Port Townsend ferry. The Hoh Rain Forest is one of the wettest places in the continental US. It receives nearly 12 FEET of rain a year. We get that much in St George every 20 years. The area is absolutely beautiful. After taking the ferry back to Couteville we found a great little neighborhood sea food restaurant. ... read more

Hi All, We are on another supposedly rest day today. I have been slack the last two days with My blog and pictures. So I will catch up now. Tuesday we took the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Joanne’s old high school friend met us at the ferry and arranged for a tour of the island on the Jolly Trolley. A great way to see the island. We made extended stops at Roche Harbor and the Lime kiln light house. The island is beautiful and well worth the visit. We planned on spending more time and having dinner in Friday Harbor, but they cancelled the 7:45 ferry so we had to leave early to try to eat in Oak Harbor. With all this sea food around we could only find a McDonalds that was open. ... read more

Yesterday we took sort of a day off. Checked out the base, drove to the sea plane base Navy Exchange, bought groceries at Safeway, eat lunch at a great sea food restaurant, visited a small light light house, watch the air show of F/A 18 Growlers over our campsite, played some Horse Shoes, and watched a whale at sunset behind our campsite. A great rest day. Today we are headed to Friday Harbor and not a rest day. More tomorrow.... read more

Good Morning Everyone, We are finally in Whidbey Island. After 3 days of driving 1200 miles we set up last night and cooked some hamburgers on the grill and relaxed with a great view of the ocean. We are in the Cliff Side RV park on Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. It is one of the best RV parks I have ever stayed at. Great spot right on the ocean, well maintain with gardens everywhere, and a nature trail along the ocean and into the thick forest. Great sleeping last night with the cool air and the sound of the waves on the beach. The drive was mostly uneventful until we approached Seattle with the Sunday returning traffic. More cars in 2 hours than we saw the previous 3 days. It is amazing how people will ... read more

Vacations may be a time of joy, laughter... and burglaries. Yes burglaries are more prevalent than we would imagine. Burglars that are some bolder won't be deterred by daylight hours. To prevent becoming another crime statistic, follow along with home safety hints to create your house less attractive to thieves, thieves and other uninvited guests. Use Lights Use timer switches lights, to create the burglar evidence. These devices cost just a few bucks each, nevertheless can make the look of action within your home 24 hours per day.
