Geo: 38.4543, -76.6907Hello again,As I was rereading my last entry I think it may have Louis Vuitton that had the line and not Yves St. Laurent.... sorry, just trying to be accurate. Kind of hard to be with a fuzzy brain about these sorts of things....On Monday, June 4th we:Bought our train tickets for our journey on Wednesday to Venice. Found Largo Argentina, the spot where Julius Caesar was murdered. Amazing to see the actual spot! It is fenced off and you look down into a large square with the remnants of temples and the temporary meeting place for the Senate at that time. There are busy modern streets surrounding it and the spot is actually a cat sanctuary for stray cats! Volunteers staff it and take care of them and feed them, they take donations...On ... read more

We intended to return to Seattle today via Mount Rainier. Crossing the Hood River Bridge and Columbia River to Washington we headed for Trout Lake on the 141. There are some lovely views of Mount Hood and Mount Adams on this road. North of Trout Lake the road system was not too clear so we stopped at a Ranger Station and surprised to find from a wonderful ranger that the road we were seeking was washed away last November by the same floods that did so much damaged near Mount Hood. She advised us to go via Mount St Helens but that returning to Seattle that way might have serious delays from heavy traffic. She mapped out a scenic route via Glenwood and Yakima which we followed. It’s sparsely populated around here, offering some great views ... read more

Geo: 46.2741, -119.274Back again! Thought I'd fill in the gaps and then finish out the trip. So sorry about all the misspellings and wrong grammar! I was paying by the minute and had to be fast, that with the different keyboard really had me! are those excuses good enough?? :) May 31:Mauro, our apt. manager met us at the airport when we arrived. A little apprehensive/ curious about the upcoming ride into Roma, as we had heard about the driving.... He drove 120 km and a little faster. I guess that's 80 and above... people were passing us.... no turn-signaling to change lanes by anyone, motorcycles just drive inbetween the cars, not in their own lanes.....Found Piazza Navona, went into some churches there, walked into the Pantheon, WOW! very impressive, Campo Di'Fiore...June1:Took a bus to the ... read more

Well my time has flown by and its time to say goodbye to Seattle. On my last day in Seattle I was able to hit the shops just one more time and visit the Outlets - they are part of a huge development on Indian tribal land, so its pretty amazing to think how smart those little Indians were!! Instead of selling the land, they kept it, have built a Casino, are in the process of building a hotel, and an outlet centre all on their land. This means that every month every single member of the tribe (apparently there are thousands of them) each receive a cheque for the profits for that month - How cool!! They would be loving it - money for just being part of the family! For our final dinner ... read more

Today we visited Seattle city, or Downtown as the locals call it. We started at the Pikes Place Market, where the first Starbucks began and wandered the streets of the markets. Lots of fresh food, flowers and local specialties - all too amazing to mention. All my fellow Greys Anatomy addicts will be pleased to know that I was able to pass the set where Greys Anatomy is filmed, and you will all be suprised to know I managed to bump into McDreamy himself, on the waterfront - Who would of thought!! I convinced him to pose for a photo, while Jan skipped the niceties and went straight for the kiss!! We then wandered through the city, checking out many of the stores including GAP, Nordstroms, Old Navy and Macy's. After wandering the streets for ... read more

We woke on our last day of vacation tired from ten days of going non-stop, eager to fill our day with what we could, and dreading our return to the workaday world. We slept too long to get the free continental breakfast so we got a bagel and coffee from the coffee shop attached to the hotel. Somewhat revived, we walked over to the Burke Museum on the campus of the University of Washington. It had a couple of interesting exhibits, one on the history of the land we now call Washington from its time under water to the present day, with lots of exhibits on the geology of the area and the flora and fauna that had inhabited it at one time or another, and one on the variety of cultures native to the Pacific ... read more

June 10, 2007 At home in Port Townsend, Wash. Approx. 6 months after our return The following letter was mailed in April to the 160 families we came into contact with (!) on our trip. It's been updated through June 2007 and, along with a separate entry detailing our trip statistics (see Final Trip Stats), is intended to be the final entry of this epic travel blog. Thanks for following along! 2006 was a life-changing year for us, and we will always remember your role in it. We write to update you on the conclusion of our round-the-continent road trip and how we have taken the lessons of our year-long sabbatical to heart. We aren’t slipping back into old, worn roles, but have taken the opportunity to craft new directions for ourselves upon our return, ... read more
