Road from Vegas
No, Pat, we didn't get lost. I was just too tired to write anything this night and the gol-danged internet connection didn't work in our room. May 18 - Day 4 - Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce Cyn The drive on I15 going east from Vegas is nothing but straight road for miles and miles. The only things to look at are the mountains far to the east that we will get to in good time. It doesn't take long to leave Vegas and its suburbs since most of Vegas has grown towards the south. We won't hear a word from the [View Full Entry]

To get to Utah from the Grand Canyon South Rim you must go east about 35 miles and then north a hundred miles or so to the first bridge over the Colorado river at Marble Canyon AZ. From there its west over to Fredonia and north into Utah. We moseyed (sp?) up US 89 to the Hitching Post Campground in Panguitch, UT. Panguitch is a neat little cowboy town and is the gateway to Bryce Canyon. A local wrangler told us about a butcher shop where we bought some great ribeye steaks for the grill. It's about a 60 mile round [View Full Entry]

Bryce

I’m retroactively blogging a trip my brother and I took around to some of the National Parks in the US in August of 2005. I wanted to put some information out about these amazing places, as they are, in my opinion, the highlights of the US. We made it to Bryce Canyon and, after being in the sweltering heat of Zion National Park; we appreciated the higher altitude and cooler temperature (at night at least) in Bryce Canyon. We spent the first day getting acquainted with the park, and just driving through the area. It is an extremely small park, but [View Full Entry]

The bushes of Bryce

What a glorious place! Despite the fact that we arrived with the rain, this is one amazing place. We hiked to Queen's Garden in nearly pouring rain but still were impressed by the beauty! This park is filled with hoodoos, which are unique formations of the rock from years of water and wind. The Paoute indians refused to stay here because they thought the Hoodoos were bad people who had been frozen in stone. Sadly, due to clouds, no stars... The next morning the Schanz gang and Ryan took a horseback ride to the bottom of the canyon and back. Bud, [View Full Entry]

Hey All Will try and pick up where I left off... Went to Chicago after living the 'Windy City' of Cleveland. When you arrive in Chicago you can't help but notice that the skyline is massive and you get the impression that it is bigger than New York but they tell me that Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the US so it clearly isn't bigger, just seems so. There is a nice beach tehre and very interesting architecture on the buildings. It's a city that would be easy to live in. Went for a look along the 'Magnificent Mile' [View Full Entry]

After leaving Zion National Park, we arrrived at Bryce Canyon in the afternoon. We quickly found a camping space and set out to explore the park before the sun set. First we walked over to the Amphitheatre at Inspiration Point to check out the amazing views, and then headed down into the Canyon along Wallstreet and Navajo Loop Trail. There is nothing that compares to the view from down inside the canyon among the hoodoos. We were stopping to take pictures every few feet. The colors at that time of day were unbelievable and I am sure the photos don't do [View Full Entry]

Tree Growing Tall

Lesser known than the Grand Canyon but equally impressive, Bryce Canyon lies in southern Utah. We drove out to Bryce Canyon from Las Vegas, about 4 hrs, we passed through Zion National Park. Bryce Canyon was the maddest place, huge numbers of rock pillars rise up from the valley floor in shades of red, orange and brown, about 300 ft tall. Truly one of the most impressive natural spectacles I've yet to see. I walked for only a few miles within the canyon, along "Navaho Walk", watched the sunset, and then headed out to look for a cheap motel. [View Full Entry]
