A couple on an extended vacation books a room at an out-of-the-way B&B. This will be the beginning of an unusual journey, a journey of both sight and sound. They've done this kind of thing many time before and they are not concerned. They will leave the main road and pass through a series of gates, but what they don't realize is that on the other side of the last gate lies, the TwiLodge Zone. We booked this place over the phone on a reference from a hotel. The woman said it was a B&B, "Sort of." We met the host [View Full Entry]

This was my favorite of the National Parks I visited in Utah. I'm not counting the Grand Canyon because that's in a category all by itself. This is definitely a park that I want to come back and spend more time exploring in the future. Bryce Canyon National Park is stunning. Who knew it was possible for nature to make such amazing and colorful features all on its own? The formations look like they are ready to fall over yet are made of stone. According to Utah.com: "Millions of years of wind, water and geologic mayhem have shaped and etched the [View Full Entry]

First thing after breakfast was our hike on Navajo Loop Trail at sunset Point. The trail is 1.3 miles round trip down a very steep canyon trail into a canyon that gets narrower the further down you go. We had to bend down though a “window” in the rock about half way down. When we got to the bottom the canyon was about 2 feet wide, but hundreds of feet high. Dave did the entire loop trail. I turned back at mid-point to take some great shots of the canyon. We then drove the 15 or so miles to the end [View Full Entry]

This morning, Elise, Simone and I went on a trail ride to the canyon. Elise road her own horse, Strawberry, and Simone and I rode Heeber. The ride was fairly uneventful as all we did was walk. Simone was immediately bored, and wanted to go home, so we made up some songs about the horses. She brightened up immediately. Elise was start-struck the whole time and was very proud of herself at the end. Joe and Ethan went on an off-road ATV ride this morning. The guide who led it was a “grouchy old fart” as Joe describes him. The guide [View Full Entry]

Yesterday, we drove to Bryce Canyon. We thought it was going to be 4.5 hours, but it was 5.5 hours. We are staying at Ruby’s Inn just outside of Bryce. I was expecting a smaller resort, but this place has everything…pool, store, post office, shopping, internet. We went to the pool and hot tub with the kids and decided we liked Bryce Canyon immediately. These types of resort places seem to work best with young children. Today, we went into Bryce Canyon National Park. The kids are less enthusiastic now, in fact, they are downright whiney about hiking. I know if [View Full Entry]

The next national park on our national park marathon was Bryce canyon. It isn’t as big as the “Grand Canyon”. But on my opinion the landscape is much more impressive. Anyway, we took some pictures, walked around and left for Arches national park which is around 4hours away. So we arrived there on late afternoon. Arches national park isn’t very big. But the arches are very impressive. Unfortunately it started to rain and we had to leave to Salt Lake City. So we couldn’t stay for the sunset… [View Full Entry]

Day 15 -- Bryce Canyon After about a 2 hour drive from Zion to Bryce National Park, we settled in at Ruby's Campground and hopped on the shuttle into the park. We were running a little late because Chris had to do one last thing before we left the RV - a trait that while possiblely genetic does not make it any less frustrating to the rest of the family. Luckily after lunch in the Bryce Lodge (taco bar) everyone was in a better mood and we got to the corral and got our steeds. This time all four of [View Full Entry]

Joepie eindelijk weer internet gevonden.

I said in our last post that Tuesday would be a marathon day on the road, and boy, was it ever! We were up early once again, this time to head off to Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah. The visitor center greeter recommended we take the more scenic route through Cedar Breaks instead of using Highway 20, which normally is a little quicker. Apparently the fires further north were causing some traffic to be rerouted onto 20, leading to possible slow-downs. By then our stomachs were calling, so we stopped at a Cracker Barrel, where we also realized [View Full Entry]
