Tuesday, we managed to keep in front of the impending low front system behind us. Got to the McAsey's about 5pm, Theyv'e got very nice neighbours who let us park our trailer beside their house. Wayne was on the ball and had cooked us a very nice dinner. Alysha had left that morning for Vegas , so we took over her room. Nice to have a normal bed for a change. Wayne had matress's for the kids too, so they found a space on the floor and for the 1st time in months we deserted the poor old trailer and slept in the house. Wednesday, we slept in and had nothing at all planned for the day. Wayne and the girls went off to work and school, Kylie caught up on some washing, I baked and ... read more

Great vacation before the school year ends! Colby travels a lot on business for the state so he's promised to take me along. Our first trip was to his old home turf El Paso for some conference or other. We'd be staying for a couple of days. Our hotel was downtown at EL Paso's oldest most glamorous hotel. We had a corner room and it was HUGE, very presidential, with a view of the mountains. While Colby was away conferencing I headed over to the EL Paso Museum of Art and its a pretty nice one for a town of this stature. They have an excellent collection for not being know the world over. Its a definite must to any visitor to this town. The following day I visited the Insights El Paso Science Museum with ... read more

“Decisions are only the beginning of something. When someone makes a decision he is, in fact, plunging into a powerful current that carries him to a place he had never even dreamed of when he made that initial decision.” The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho It is January 26th and I am sitting hoisted up in my car while they change my oil and I am trying to decide whether to continue going west or take a detour south. As they bring me down, I decide to go south. It was the best decision I ever made. The minute I turned on to highway 385 I was blown away. I have never been to the desert before so this was all so new to me. Seeing the wide open ranges with cattle that go on for miles, ... read more

We were on the road at 7:10 so that we could get to El Paso in time to get a doctor's appointment for Nancy's eye checkup. The sunrise was glorious and red this morning. Now we have "Red sky at morning - Sailor take warning". Now, which one do we believe, last night's red sky or this morning's red sky? Hmmm. The mountains had a rosy glow at first; then the bridges and bushes had a golden glow; then the sky between the clouds turned a most gorgeous turquoise. Later, we went through grasslands with scattered brush two to three feet tall, with an occasional mesquite tree. We saw cattle and water windmills. There were still oilfields, but not as many. We began to see a variety of agave/yucca plants. One was soaptree yucca. At Saragosa, ... read more

Oct 12 Today I got up late and did not get underway till 10.30 am. A check on the bike reveals a broken spoke which means the wheel is slightly off true which means it is rubbing against the back brake, I can't fix this so I op for disconnecting the back brake till I get to the next bike shop about 150 miles away . I think this happened riding the bumpy sidewalks of El Paso, I must check my equipment more often, I think I have been lucky so far. The wind is side on at first then behind me so I cover the last 24 miles of the journey in record time, the scenery is flat , nothing to write home about - so I wont ! Into Fort Hancock, a bleak town ... read more

Today saw us rise bright eyed and rested in the town of Cortez , Colorado. We left the motel at 6:30am and decided to blast off right away which served us well. We hit the New Mexico border just as the sun was rising and cruised right into the Navajo reservation. The view was incredible, the crowning jewel being ship's rock, a Massive pillar of stone. Quick fuel ups for us today and not much picture time at all. Blane was courageous enough to film while riding so have some "on the fly footage". At our second stop we met a couple dudes from Vernon B.C. who were on enduro bikes as well; only they were cruising off rode down the continental divide! Sounds like a tough trip but I am sure the memories will ... read more

Well its been a while and i'm sorry for all my readers and i'm missin a couple of blogs from the last couple of days in Orleans and the 30 hour train journey from Orleans to El Paso, Texas. But don't worry i've wrote em in my diary so i'll try and bang em up on here at some point. Anyways got into El Paso early evenin and got a lift from the station to our hostel where much confusion did commence. I'd booked online in2 our Hostel and when we got there we sorted out our room and the guy on the desk kept on sayin 'the Gold Room' but i knew i had booked a twin room. However when we turned the key and entered we found a big double Bed facing me and ... read more

Hej alle. Her er lidt billeder fra El Paso. ... read more

As I make the last of the preparations for travel, I have to chuckle at the irony. I came to West Texas because I don't care for cold weather except to go there to ski. Now as I prepare to leave, the Powers That Be want to make sure I don't lose my resolve. It's as though this is an omen: It's 27 degrees at 2:49 am, and still dropping. I've got the space heater going full blast in this 8x16 room and I'm still going to need the sleeping bag tonight! Okay, okay, I get the hint, I'm going, I'm going! Ticketed to Dublin, a few days stopover in Scotland, and then on to Agadir, Morocco via Aer Lingus. The fare was AWESOME, by the way- $123 USD from Dublin to Agadir, including taxes! ... read more
