So im off. First post on my "see the world trip" So im in Dallas, big town Dallas, not in Kansas anymore.. Wow! Straight Up Hardcore American Republican Town with a Mexican Twist. Texas is something worth visiting, for many reasons; 1. As locals explain "Everything is bigger in Texas" 2. Mexican food is somewhat unique compared to the rest of white dominated countries, its just over the border. As well as illegal immigrants, drugs and weapson secretly smuggling through the security lines, it seems so do the mouth watering recipes from down south. 3. History is somewhat controversial. With the Cowboy nature still engulfed in the republic oil rich people, it is its strong and passoinate people which give Texas its rich culture. Rich in the sense that its maintained its pride in the "Power of ... read more

Temp: 18 degrees The day started with a quick breakfast followed by a 15 minute walk to The 6th Floor Museum, the building from which Lee Harvey Ozwald Assasinated President John F Kennedy. the museum was great you could easily spend many more hours than the 2 1/2 we spent there. we did the audio tur whick was fantasti, great info, good commentary and excellent pictures. Our next stop was Wild Bills, a store you could buy everything you need to become an authentic Texan cowboy, beatifulk cowboy boots, hats belt buckles & much more. I came close to buying a pair of the boots but unfortunley the designs they had availble in my size weren't to die for so i really couldn't justify getting & then having to find room in my very over sized ... read more

After studying abroad this summer I realized how hard it was to tell everyone what I was doing, where I was, and what I was experiencing! I had limited time to check emails, and did not always have my computer with me. I also had to type and re-type stories, which took more time then I had! This time around I want to do things a little differently! I still love getting emails from everyone, especially real mail! Its great to hear from y'all on Facebook, email and twitter! But I thought it also may be fun to document some of my more general stories on a blog, where I can let everyone know my adventures day by day! I will be studying in London for the Spring semester of 2012 at the University of Westminster. ... read more

OK… it’s been aaaaaaaaaaages since the last update. No apologies though, coz it was simply too busy and hectic. Don’t even remember when the last update was… nearly 2 months ago I guess. Well, a lot has been happening in the Big D since then… Djeez… where to start! Well, we have moved into our new place about a month ago now. And we are absolutely loving it! It’s in a great neighbourhood, lots of trees, and a very “village” like feeling make us almost feel like being back in Barendrecht, haha!! It is true though, it feels like a very small community, not what we were expecting at all from a city with 6+ million people living here! It’s a lot more comfortable than our “holiday apartment” in St Kilda (one of Jackie’s friends stayed ... read more

Over the past few days in Texas we have driven in a hot car, almost thought we weren't going to make it any further due to the car almost going bust (Bryce rectified the problems for 25$ handy man), taken on the major rides at two six flags locations, ate, slept, taken loads of pictures and generally sat still for not too long and couch surfed for the first time. When we were in Amarillo we ran into a sheriff who told us to travel to Fredericksberg, a small town in Texas who was founded by Germans originally, which is where it got it's name and character. Lots of the street names are of origin descent, and there is literally a tonne of German food and historical buildings to see. When we found the visitor center ... read more

Before the Show It's always a good morning when you actually wake up after falling asleep in a small hotel room with a meth head in a bed rather than a tub full of ice. I don't how extensive the black market organ trade in Arkansas is, but I wouldn't put anything past these people. I went out to the van to wake the boys and tell them about the shenanigans of last night. Since I was the only one who had a chance to shower the night before, Adam, Mike and Chris took their opportunity to get clean. Steve, for reasons incomprehensible to the rest of us, opted to remain in his current olfactory-molesting condition. He smelled like a Tijuana port-a-potty. He smelled like a Frenchman rolling in dog feces. He smelled like Liz ... read more

Sunday 30 Jan.11 In Dallas at the Adolphus til very late check out – they allow 1pm. Due to fact I was having a meltdown re “loss” of Ipod and all my digital information. Finally found it fallen into a slot in my pack – phew. Then rolled the bag over to new hotel 2 blocks away (down town Dallas fortunately quite small blocks) Aloft Dallas – a W Hotel – for the funky young things, a warehouse conversion and quite different from the Olde Worlde Adolphus. 14 feet ceilings and some exposed walls and different textures and colours. Then out for a walk – to the Dallas Museum of Art – a good African mask exhibition the main exhibition. And selection form their American moderns. Pity I only had an hour. A free trolley runs ... read more

San Fran to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) was the order of the day. Paranoid about being dumped from US flights got the 8.15 BART so was at airport before 9am fro 10.25 flight (unusual for me). American seem to fly the oldest airframes in the business – MD80 – that a DC9 like Ansett used to fly! The flight is 3 ½ hrs and they give you a can of pop – you are hardly done by on QF with dinner on domestic flights! Into DFW and bused (free) to the Remote South (carpark). Altho th trinity Railroad Express (TRE) runs Dallas-Ft Worth M-Fr + Sat (no Sun) with almost a 2 hr gap decided to try the 408 bus from there, change to 409 later. The bus was sitting there but left 10 mins late. All ... read more
