This is our last full day of vacation. ( I don’t count driving eight hours home as vacation really.) It was a lovely day in the high 60s and sunny. We went for breakfast to a nearby restaurant called the Frothy Monkey. And then we walked to the country music Hall of Fame. I believe we were there for the 11:15 entrance and stayed 4 hours. It was really very interesting, with lots of displays and videos. We rented the audio things. It was interesting to see who was in this Hall of Fame as well as the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. We then walked to a coffee shop and had really tasty coffee called Dancing goats. It was very smooth. Then we did a little bit of walking across the Cumberland river where ... read more

A long day of driving for David, but he does such an amazing job, even in the anxiety-raising 3-dimensional spaghetti junctions. We headed out from the hotel by 8 and crossed the crazy long bridge across Lake Pontchartrain (which averages 14’ in depth) – the longest bridge continuously over water (unlike the Florida Keys which are water and island mixes). And guess where we went? Back to try to find the XXX red cockaded woodpeckers. Still struck out on them. But at the boardwalk over the marsh the King Rail was making his loud sounds, like bull frogs really, and we used the Merlin app to call back to him. He actually managed to cross from one side of the boardwalk to the other TWICE without our seeing him. Then I caught a glimpse but David ... read more

Getting to Music City from San Diego for your standard traveller could be done in under 4 hours. However, yours truly decided that a greater challenge was required, and following schedule changes and sticking to my budget, I decided to continue with my flight to the east coast with a short transfer in Denver. five hours stuck in the airport of brotherly love, before once again meeting my friends again from Spirit Air for the final push to Nashville. Under federal law cannabis/ marijuana use is illegal in the US, either for medicinal or recreational purposes. Memphis TN – Nashville TN Nashville RV Resort and Cabins Days 31 - 33 Nashville is another stop on our RV tour that we visited on our Great Loop trip. This time we stayed about 20 minutes from Downtown Nashville, and only came into town once. The drive to Nashville was almost uneventful, until a truck pulling a horse trailer, cut in front of us kicking up a lot of stones. As soon as I felt the first stone I hit the brakes as hard as I dared. Unfortunately for our windshield I did not react quickly enough, we ended up with a dime size chip in the windshield. Both Angel and I were a little upset, but very hopeful that the chip could be repaired. Windshields for RV’s are very expensive. Once we got to ... read more

Leaving Gulf Shores! Woke up to a cloudy day for our first half of our travels home. One last morning walk on the beach with Leo. The winds and surf had picked up since yesterday. Not too many out on the beach early. Just a few walkers and another dog getting a morning walk. Storms expected along our route home. We packed up our belongings into the truck to head home. We ate an assortment of leftovers for breakfast. Spaghetti, pancake sandwich, pasta with shrimp. One last check to make sure we didn’t leave anything behind. The truck was loaded and we headed out of Morgantown. Just north of Gulf Shore we started getting the rain and storms. There were some really good claps of thunder and lightning strikes to the ground. We didn’t run into ... read more

Nashville was named after American Revolutionary war hero Francis Nash. Our tour started along Printer’s Alley. At the beginning of the 20th century, Printer’s Alley was home to a thriving publishing industry. The area was home to two large newspapers, ten print shops, and thirteen publishers. During Prohibition print shops ran a collection of bars that became the city’s not-so-secret secret bar scene. We then moved to the part of Printers Alley District known in the late nineteenth century as the Men’s Quarter, named as a result of the many gambling parlors and saloons located there. Any women who valued their reputation would not dare venture into this part of Printer’s Alley. We heard about The Maxwell House Hotel (where Maxwell Coffee got it’s name) and the separate entrance that was established for ladies to enter ... read more

We woke up and Jenn worked as our short order chef for all the kids with flapjacks and eggs. Ellie and Grayson showed Steve their schoolwork area and amazed him by how well that they both could read for their ages! Steve had to work today so everyone else made the morning trip out to Luckyladd farms in Eagleville, including one of Ellie's friends Piper as seen in the pictures from the day on the back of Mike's truck. The farm was full of pumpkins and plenty to do such as: petting goats, picking pumpkins, sliding on sacks, seesawing, and climbing. At the end, the kids all had peanut butter (Nathan) or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the back of Uncle Mike's truck and we took some adorable pictures. Back home Vivian napped and the ... read more

OLD HICKORY Andy, By God, Jackson was our fine country’s seventh President. He was a war hero too by virtue of defeating the Creeks at Horseshoe Bend and stealing their land and then by defeating the pesky Redcoats at the Battle of New Orleans. That battle was fought after the Redcoats had already surrendered. The pirate, Jean Lafitte, commanded the artillery for us during that battle. He made every shot count because the Redcoats would have hung him for piracy if they could have. By the time he was President, Old Hickory, as he had come to be fondly known, had a thriving cotton plantation called the Hermitage outside of Nashville. He owned several hundred industrious slaves that he seldom had flogged if they didn’t run off or get lazy. If they did he was fond ... read more

Yesterday (Sunday) was a very busy travel day so I didn’t get a chance to update the blog. As such, everyone gets a doubleheader blog post encompassing Day 6 in Nashville and Day 7 on the road and in Georgia! We woke up on Saturday morning in our awesome Airbnb apartment on the outskirts of downtown Nashville. We had a corner apartment on the 5th floor and the views were incredible. We had purchased groceries the night before on our way in, so breakfast was en-suite as Heather scrambled up some eggs and made bacon and hash brown potatoes for all. Livy slept through and had her breakfast bowl later while Heather, Diego and I went to check out the pool situation. The building has a rooftop pool on the 2nd floor of a six-story building. ... read more
