Mai Tai's at the Mai Tai Yaromir and Pat rented a four bedroom house in North Myrtle Beach for Anna's dance competition at the convention center over the 4th of July weekend. There were some historic photos in some of the books inside the house and based on those it was one of the first houses in the area when it was built in the late 1960s. This morning Ed made it to the beach for some stretching and I made it to the picnic table to drink my tea. The girls got in their TV time while we grilled some French toast and then it was time for the activities to begin. I got my walk on the beach in while Ed took the girls to the pool. Then Daisy (Ed’s mom) joined us with homemade fried chicken (which is a favorite food group for both Jacquelyn and I). As we were eating chicken, Danielle looked at Ed and asked why the hair on the side of his head was white. Amidst the laughter, she got a response that it was mature blonde. This is a different life. Wake up (pretty much all at the same time due to the noise the first person makes), sit down and breathe, make breakfast while the kids watch tv/dvd, eat, decide what play activity we do first but before we do it transform the rv back from bedrooms to dayrooms and clean breakfast up, then spend the day flowing from one activity to another with large breaks back at the rv for sitting and breathing (the adult activity, yesterday the kids breathing activity related to 50 water balloons and a water hose), have a break in the activities for lunch and dinner (and a nap), always cleaning up anything you do because you have to, and then showers, maybe some more tv/dvd and then sleep. April 11 The drive from Charleston to Myrtle Beach via 17 wasn’t without its interesting points. Traveling along the Francis Marion Forest Preserve we tried to remember the words to Swamp Fox, Marion’s nick name. He was a revolutionary war hero who knew the territory as the forces of South Carolina fought the Brits. “Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, hiding in a glen; nobody knows where the Swamp Fox has been,” etc. There were also many roadside stands set up by Gullah women to sell their baskets. As we neared Myrtle Beach, our earlier perceptions bore out - miles of commercial establishments - Pirate themed mini golf, buffet restaurants, every chain and fast food logo known to man!
