Dear all, you guessed it, we are still farming our way down the east coast of the US and life is still good and everyone is happy. I wish I could say something drastic or dramatic has happened but I'm afraid we are still playing the part of country bumpkins and living a wholesome, relaxing life, perhaps even finding some inspiration for The Future! We have been at the current farm for just over a week now, staying with a couple Nick and Thea and their two-year old daughter Madalyn, plus goat, cat and chickens. It has certainly been different from the previous farm but not in a bad way - I was a bit apprehensive when I saw toys outside the house when we first arrived (they say never work with children or animals but ... read more

Another fine but cool morning with promise of an OK day ahead.Joined the throngs for breakfast( a bus load had arrived in last night after we arrived ) and it was just as well the ining room was a good size. With what was only a short distance to travel we delayed our start until after Kelly and Regis today. We headed up TN-441 into the Smokies National Park and started the steady climb up to the summit of the road at just over 5000 ft.At the pass named Newfoundland Gap there were people everywhere and two busloads as well as cars. The view out over the changing leaf colours to the distant mountains was beautiful and the smoky nature of the atmosphere lived up to its reputation. At the carpark there were about a doen people paiting ... read more

We were an odd bunch. 10 or 15 Jews standing next to a beautiful little creek below the Warren Wilson campus. Some of us were carrying little sambas, some PVC shofars, others with more serious items: real shofars, guitars, and challah! With song and dance, we looked into the ceremony we were about to complete: Tashlikh. Contemplation of our sins, or possibly looking at our regrets and finally casting them away in the river. It may of just been the quaint setting, by a babbling brook surrounded by Appalachian hills, sun streaming in, and the odd assortment of bamboo and other plants growing on campus, but there was a most surreal and spiritual effect to the ritual. After throwing bread crumbs or leaves into the river, we gathered in another circle for song and passing around ... read more

It is such a fun thing to get in your car every couple of days and drive to a new place. If you ever get the opportunity to do something like this, I would jump on it. There is so much of this world to see and so many beautiful people to meet. It is such a nice feeling to live in the moment and not worry about what happened yesterday or what is supposed to happen tomorrow. That is one thing I have learned from being on the road and I hope that lesson stays with me forever because you truly can't be anywhere then where you are in that moment...so enjoy it. We have already been through at least ... read more

This is my first page about my upcoming trip to Europe. I leave in two weeks, and my travel agent only has part of my documents. I will probably not be able to do an entry every day -- it will depend on how often I can get access to wifi, or a hotel lobby computer. I am new to wifi and blogging, so I am practicing with this short intro. This is my first trip across the Atlantic, although I have done quite a bit of traveling on this side of "the pond." I hope to capture a lot of nitty-gritty details, so I hope my readers can do some skimming and not get bored. I haven't taken bus tours before, and I haven't found out as much info about how they work as I ... read more

Lesson Learned: My amateur pictures do not do a school justice. Rely on college/university websites for pictures. Note to Students: Do consider taking a picture of yourself on campus for your application packet. Include this picture with a clever caption or story about your experience on the campus.... read more

Dear All, Thank you for subscribing to my “Travel Blog”. Twenty-five schools in ten days and approximately 2000 miles on the road allows for only a quick survey of schools. Your tour of schools need not go at such a fast clip once you identify the kinds of schools of interest to you. My goals were 1) to promote Christ School to college/university admissions offices in the northeast, 2) to develop stronger working relationships with admissions personnel who review our Christ School student files and 3) to learn more about schools which might be good matches for Christ School students. As you have noticed, I have made notes for myself, and in the process, tried to give you a feel for some of the schools in the region as well as an idea of things a ... read more

It means no worries, for the rest of your days, its a problem free philisophy, Hakuna Matata. For those of you who aren't now humming alone, go out, rent The Lion King and you'll be in the same fluffy mood I was in watching a live action version last week. Simba and friends dancing and singing to all the well known hits, warms the soul. Disney World. The magic is real, and it takes over you from the moment you walk through the gates and see the fairy princess castle, see Mickey Mouse, get chatted up by a Chipmunk, ride the amazing rides and fall in love time and again with all your favourite characters. I loved it. My inner child was skipping with joy for the full week we were there. Since it's now the ... read more

After letting Savannah back in the house (she'd gotten locked out talking to her boyfriend outside on the phone), we set settled in to sleep. Everyone in the house all got moving relatively early, had breakfast and we all set out to Danny and Mary's house to pick them up. We rounded up all the kids and adults and headed out to a nearby park to take a walk. It was a gorgeous morning - if you don't mind near 90% humidity - and the 1/2 mile walk seemed much longer to us Californians. But the scenery was pretty and it was fun to watch the little kids run and play. The path ended at a pond where Lily decided to go skinny-dipping. If it wasn't illegal for those of us over age 3, it was ... read more
