Despite being exhausted from our late arrival, I was awake very, very early, due to still being five hours ahead on UK time. Furthermore, we like to sleep with the window open for some fresh air, which was a mistake due to New Yorkers' obsession with using their car horns - even in the early hours of the morning. I decided to get up and head to a place in Brooklyn called Dumbo, which is an area between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. The name is apparently short for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass". It is one of my favourite photography locations for early morning (or evening) pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge and the skyline of Lower Manhattan. Whilst inhibited by the lack of sleep, I needed to get my head around the complicated train ... read more

On commence tranquillement à zieuter Portland... Mais bon, pour marquer le coup d'après pandémie, c'est assez peu satisfaisant... Sur ... read more

I knew it had snowed overnight, probably a lot. Therefore, there was no reason to force myself out of from under the covers. Sleeping in was the name of the game. However, eventually it was time to get up and access the damage. I walked across the room and threw back the curtains. The hotel parking lot had not been plowed, my car was buried under a mass of snow, and the flakes continued to fall. I got my breakfast out of the mini fridge, turned on the tv, and hopped back into bed. But all good things come to an end. It was time to put on my winter jacket, new gloves, and knit cap. There was work to be done, bad back and all. Standing outside my car in the still falling slow, I ... read more

After taking two epic road trips last year, I was eager to take more this year. Maybe a Christmas season trip up through Vermont before darting over to Maine to see my cousins. Maybe I could follow that up with a late February/March trip to the Deep South: Alabama and Mississippi. Unfortunately, those were not to be. These days life’s plans frequently get changed and not for the better. In October I developed a back injury that made sitting down or walking for prolonged periods very painful. The anticipated road trips of my imagination drifted away like so much smoke. However, I was determined to go somewhere and do something. By February, I realized that for the time being I would have to live with this injury and do what I could regardless. I decided to ... read more

It was great to be back in New York City with Aaron & Patrick The temporary art sculptures in The Garment District were giant origami-inspired sculptures. The installation, entitled "Hacer: Transformations," features seven massive paper-like animals, turquoise coyotes, turquoise rabbits, a magenta elephant, an orange Fox and a green bear cub. California artist Hacer created the sculptures from powder-coated steel—the largest of the series, "Coyote, Stalking," is a whopping 14 feet long. In Times Square although not working it was still fascinating to see ‘A Fountain for Survivors’ - A sheltered fountain protected by a covering of hundreds of thousands of acrylic fingernails. As always an informative and fun tour on heygo.... read more

Stretching 1.45 miles through the Meatpacking District and Chelsea along the west side of Manhattan, the High Line is one of New York’s most innovative green spaces. Built along an old elevated railway; the original tracks are still visible along the path and we saw tracks that would have led straight into one of the buildings. My 5th time with A&P on this tour, at different times of the year, but the first time at night. It was dusk when we started and being elevated 30 feet off the ground, the city skyline was magical as it became darker, so too the under lit trees as we weaved along the pathways between the buildings. The tour ended at Hudson Yards with the iconic architecture of the Vessel & The Shed (Performing arts centre). Following the tour ... read more

Mom passed away on September 22nd. This is not news you ever want to hear but it definitely hits hard when you are so many miles away. I hold on to the memory of my last visit with Mom on the 8th of September. It was a good visit and we enjoyed our time together as our visits seemed to always include memories of our many trips we took together. Unfortunately, I do not have many of my photos from our many trips over the years here on the boat, but sharing a few that I have here. All we had to say to Mom was that we were going on a trip and did she want to join us – she didn’t even wait for us to say where we were going! We traveled in ... read more

It’s time, Folks. Pack your bags. We gotta go. We have to go back. “Back where?”, you ask…..back to our winter respite at Tropical Palms, of course. The chill is in the air. Autumn has arrived. The frost will soon be on the pumpkin. The bus leaves first thing in the morning. Ticket master Lulu will be there to collect your tickets and assign your seats. No crowding, please….plenty of room for everyone. Hope you are as excited as we are to refresh our adventures in the sunny state of Florida. It’s been a good summer. We thoroughly enjoyed all our times with our family and friends. We made it to all our routine dental and medical appointments ….coming away unscathed fortunately. Our car and RV got all new tires so…..cross your fingers….we should be safe ... read more

Though I wrote this email many years ago, I still get excited about the two weeks of the US Tennis Open in Flushing Meadow, NY. This year will allow fans, and the crazy roar of the fans during long rallies. And I will root again for Naomi Osaka. But if you are a tennis fan, you will someday want to make your way to NY in the late summer for this tournament. Just picture George Costanza eating an ice cream on camera, the laughing stock of New York. Who remembers that scene on Seinfeld? Or Jerry wanting to date the deaf lineswoman? My guess, if you are a player who depends on the crowd to pump you up, this year's tournament will be a refreshening return to normal. And I must tell you, walking the grounds ... read more
