July 25, 2011 Touring wineries was on the agenda today. We stopped at several wineries and then the weather turned on us and a storm blew in. We ended up having lunch at the same place where we took the boat cruise the night before. We also stopped at a cheese store which was on the way home and located just a few miles before getting into Buffalo. Our friends dropped us off at the hotel so since we didn’t have a car anymore, we just stayed in for the evening and walked over to the Denny’s for dinner. ... read more

July 24, 2011 This morning we headed out to the wine country, in the Finger Lakes. We had two sets of friends with us in two cars and we met up at our hotel which is the Best Western Airport Inn. Along the way we stopped at a hamburger place called Wahl’s. OMG the best burger I have found in a long while (of the fast food type, of course). The onion rings were also perfect. Our first stop was the Sonnenburg Gardens, Winery and Mansion. The grounds are beautiful and the mansion was decorated in the period for when the owner lived there. We did get to have a quick sample of 5 wines. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay there a long time since we had to get to Penn Yan. We arrived in Penn Yan ... read more

We went up to Erin, New York where Shawn's grandfather lives. It was the last weekend in February and still the dead of winter. We drove up from Erin to Ithaca. Along the lakes there is a waterfall called Tunkhannock Falls. We saw this waterfall last fall when all the leaves were changing around it. It is just as beautiful frozen in winter. I love this area. We go to Ithaca at least a few times a year to go the wineries and drive along the finger lakes. Ithaca is a neat little hippie college town that has Cornell University. We like to go the restaurants and have seen plays at Ithaca college. It is truly one of our favorite places on earth. ... read more

We started out our "road trip" on Saturday, 10/9, arriving from the Jersey Shore to Ithaca, NY for a week long venture to see waterfalls and Fall foliage. After a good six hour ride, having awoken at the crack of dawn, we arrived at our first destination around noon at Robert H. Treman State Park at the lower gorge section where we saw an impressive lower falls and began a journey up the gorge which was essentially a steep climb up a mountain. After approximately a half of a mile or more of primarily just woods, we decided to head back to the car and drive to the upper gorge entrance before one of us had a heart attack. (By the way, I had suggested we start at the Upper Gorge, but our Map Quest directions ... read more

Here are pictures from our trip to the finger lakes over the fall. We first went up to Shawn's grand father's place in Erin and then drove up to Ithaca and the surrounding finger lakes. My parents were visiting and we stopped at several wineries. We found hot wine at one of the vineyards, we had not had it since we were in France. We then stumbled upon Tunkhanncock falls. It was unbelievable with the leaves changing around it. We also showed my parents around Ithaca. We drove around the Cornell Campus. We love Ithaca. Until we went to Vermont, we used to talk to moving to Ithaca. It is a small yet progressive college town. It has been described by some writers as Greenwich Village without Manhattan. ... read more

At 9:25AM on Monday, August 16th we cast off the dock lines and headed for the Erie Canal! It was a great start as we had a beautiful day with clear skies (after the early AM storm). We know that there has been quite a dry spell of information on the blog but we have been kept very busy with numerous activities that we will later fill you in on. We have just finished the 2nd day in the Erie Canal and stopped tonight in Ilion NY as we now have a wi-fi connection to catch up on lots of business so wanted to just post a quick note to let everyone know that we have started our journey! Will follow up with another entry in the near future to catch you up on what has ... read more

Unfortunately the move out of the house has been taking more time than we planned, therefore we have to postpone our previously scheduled open house from August 1st for 1 week and it now will be on August 8th. Same time of 4PM - 8PM and same location of Beacon Bay Marina in Cayuga NY. Again, we will need to have an RSVP from you as to if you can make this new date. We apologize for the change, but as the Peace Corps taught us years ago, we need to be flexible - hope your schedule allows you to flex to this new date as well! Our home phone is now disconnected, therefore please email us at our new address of www.tsamaya.waller@gmail.com. Hope to see you on August 8th!... read more

We know we promised to let you know when our “open house “ at our new home would be. It has been hard to predict when we will be in a position to have anyone see our new home, but have decided we need to make a decision so you can check your calendars. We have been working like crazy continuing to pack, sell and donate all that we have accumulated over the close to 36 years of marriage (and even some of the items are from before that!) Had quite a bit of our furniture and other belongings taken away by an auction house this month - sort of a strange feeling to see everything leaving at once, but it definitely cleaned out the big items in the house quickly. We are also starting to ... read more

Just re-read our last blog entry and realized that we didn’t live up to our promise to do better with blog entries. We are always amazed at how the days fly by. Our time has been filled with some big items that we needed to check off the list. First and foremost we (Bob) had to finish up some house projects in order to get the house on the market. We did a major transformation of our “front room” into a family room/guest room by painting, putting on closet doors and putting up trim. Luckily we were able to hire our nephew and he helped us with the painting of that room as well as the dining room. Between all 3 of us working on it, we got it done. We then had to find a ... read more

We’re heading home and made a last minute adjustment to the itinerary. We're skipping Gettysburg this year and heading from Lexington to Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and along Lake Erie toward Buffalo and New York's Finger Lakes wine region. We “dry camped” at a Flying J Truck Stop in Ashtabula, Ohio, along with close to a dozen other RVers, mostly "seasonal re-locators" (one new term for “snow birds”) heading back to Ontario, Quebec, New York and other points north. Decent takeout pizza from the Flying J! First stop is Cayuga Marina and Campground. Getting in with a hairpin turn and a sharp incline doesn’t make for a great arrival; so we drove on … until we were passed by a vehicle following us. The driver somehow had intuited that we were “goin’ to Gils,” and kindly offered ... read more
